Unsigned Prospect Showcase: 2018 Pitchers Analysis

Prep Baseball Report - Missouri/Kansas held the Unsigned Prospect Showcase at Hoover Field in Wichita, Kansas on Saturday, November 4.  Nearly 60 players in the 2018 and 2019 classes participated from Missouri and Kansas. 

Player profiles have been updated with profile picture, running time, throwing velocities and videos.  Today, we will break down the 2018 Pitchers from the event, and in the days to come we will break down the event position-by-position. Players are listed alphabetically below.

2018 Pitchers

Collin Brougham RHP / OF / Park Hill South, MO / 2018

Brougham is a 6-foot-3 167-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class. Brougham worked 84-87 mph with fastball, high three quarters release, loose arm action, throws with some effort, aggressive in line direction down the mound, quick arm speed, 11-to-5 breaking ball, sharp and late action with depth, change up at 73-74 mph, slight arm side release, throws with near fastball arm speed, lean frame, projectable pitchers build.

Nickolas House RHP / 1B / Grain Valley , MO / 2018

House is an athletically built 5-foot-11 170-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class. House comes from a high three quarters arm slot, controlled delivery, accelerated down the mound, in line direction, athletic finish, fastball at 72-74 mph, occasional running action, 11-to-5 breaking ball, gradual action, works down in zone, 60-63 mph, change up at 60-70 mph, fastball arm speed, straight.

Holden Missey 1B / RHP / Blue Valley NorthWest, KS / 2018

Missey is a 6-foot-3 215-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class. Missey has a quick high three quarters arm slot, loose arm action, smooth and accelerated tempo, repeats, lands slightly closed, throws across body, fastball at 83-85 mph, heavy fastball, slight late run, 11-to-5 breaking ball, works down in the zone, 70-72 mph, controllable change-up, near fastball arm speed, straight, 75-77 mph

Cooper Morrison C / RHP / Kearney, MO / 2018

Morrison is an athletically built 5-foot-11 175-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class. Morrison’s fastball has cutting action at 70-75 mph, has a short over the top release, choppy tempo with deception, shoulders stay level during delivery, breaking ball has 12-to-6 action, downward, early break, change up at 69-70 mph, straight, near fastball arm action.

Brayden Paxton 1B / LHP / Derby, KS / 2018

Paxton is a physical 6-foot-4 210-pound left-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class. Paxton worked 77-79 mph with fastball, high number of strikes, occasional late cutting action, showed command of breaking ball, 2-to-8 shape, flashed depth and late action, change up at 59-61 mph, near fastball arm speed, over the top release, controlled tempo, in line down the mound, works from the middle of the rubber, has some downhill tilt. 

Jake Shafer RHP / OF / Grain Valley , MO / 2018

Shafer has an athletic build, 6-foot 165-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class. Shafer has an aggressive over the top release, quick arm speed, arm works, throws with some effort, simple and repeatable delivery, fastball at 83-85 mph flashing cutting action, works the entire strike zone,  change up at 80-81 mph, fastball arm speed, straight, breaking ball has slider-type action, 10-to-4 shape, late and sharp, looks to be a swing and miss pitch, throws for a strike.

Andrew Sumner RHP / Mill Valley, KS / 2018

Sumner is a lean 5-foot-8 147-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2018 class. Sumner starts in a crouched position, works mainly from stretch, low three quarters arm slot, works fastball consistently to the bottom of the zone, finishes in fielding position, occasional late run and sink, 71-73 mph, high percentage of strikes, slider has occasional late 10-to-4 action, sweeping action, change up at 68-69 mph, near fastball arm speed, some with arm side sink.

Tristen Taylor RHP / OF / Conway , MO / 2018

Taylor is a 5-foot-8 167-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class. Taylor has a short high three quarters arm slot, controlled delivery, repeats, in line down the mound, throws with regular effort, fastball at 66-68 mph, occasional running action, throws for a strike, breaking ball has 12-to-6 shape, 54-56 mph, releases out of same slot as fastball, some with sharp downward action, change up at 60-62 mph, slight arm side run.

Cody White RHP / OF / Lees Summit, MO / 2018

White is a 6-foot-3 200-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2018 class. White has a side-arm release point, controlled leg kick, deception with slight leap off the rubber, in line stride, smooth tempo, fastball at 77-80 mph, gradual sinking action, 10-to-4 shaped slider, 65-67 mph, same release point as fastball, gradual late break, knuckleball at 66-68 mph, throws for a strike with sinking action, strong frame, repeats unconventional delivery.
