Unsigned Prospect Showcase: 2019 Pitchers Analysis

Prep Baseball Report - Missouri/Kansas held the Unsigned Prospect Showcase at Hoover Field in Wichita, Kansas on Saturday, November 4.  Nearly 60 players in the 2018 and 2019 classes participated from Missouri and Kansas. 

Player profiles have been updated with profile picture, running time, throwing velocities and videos.  Today, we finish the analysis portion of the event with a break down of the 2019 Pitchers from the event. Players are listed alphabetically below.

2019 Pitchers

Deriq Doty RHP / C / Maize , KS / 2019

Doty is a 6-foot-3 180-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2019 class. Doty has a high three quarters release, controlled and repeatable delivery, throws with regular effort, in line down the mound, athletic finish, fastball at mostly 78-80 mph, curveball has 11-to-5 shape, gradual and late action, 65-67 mph, has feel for a change up at 67-69 mph, works down in the zone, near fastball arm speed, occasional sinking action.

Christian Grissell 1B / LHP / Platte County , MO / 2019

Grissell is a 6-foot 180-pound left-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2019 class. Grissell comes from a high three quarters arm slot, throws with regular effort, slight rotation at top of balance point, body stays under control, throws slightly across body, fastball at 73-75 mph, works to both sides of the plate, curveball has 12-to-6 action, occasionally sharp downward action, throws a change up with knuckleball action, late sink, has feel, 64-66 mph.

William Hann RHP / SS / Olathe West, KS / 2019

Hann is a strong and well built 6-foot-1 184-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2019 class. Hann throws with some effort, accelerates in line down the mound, slight rotation at top of balance point, high three quarters release, shoulders stay level, loose arm action, fastball at 80-84 mph, occasional slight running action, 12-to-6 breaking ball, downward action action late, throws change up with near fastball arm speed, 65-67 mph, sinking action, throws for a strike.

Tyler Hill RHP / OF / Shawnee Heights , KS / 2019

Hill is a lean and long 6-foot 140-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2019 class. Hill has an over the top release, throws with some effort, high and controlled leg lift, strides slightly open at landing, fastball at 79-81 mph, flashes arm side run, change up has arm side sink, 71-72 mph, near fastball arm speed, breaking ball has 11-to-5 shape, gradual action, some depth, shows signs of being good pitch as he continues to develop.

Dylan Lankford LHP / OF / Lee's Summit North, MO / 2019

Lankford is an athletic 5-foot-10 155-pound left-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2019 class. Lankford has a compact delivery, repeats, over the top release, works downhill with tilt, leg lifts straight up, arm works, smooth tempo in delivery, fastball 80-81 mph, late running action, good fastball command, 12-to-6 breaking ball, 50-61 mph, down in zone, throws for strike, throws change up with near fastball arm speed, 67-69 mph.

Tyler McQuinn RHP / OF / Blue Valley Northwest, KS / 2019

McQuinn is an strong and compact 5-foot-6 148-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2019 class. McQuinn throws with regular effort and smooth rhythm, has high three quarters arm slot, simple and repeatable, throws strikes with fastball and curveball, fastball at 72-76 mph, topping out at 77 mph, curveball has 11-to-5 shape, late and sharp break, change up at 68-71 mph, occasional sink, down in zone, near fastball arm speed.

Donovan Meloy 2B / SS / Staley , MO / 2019

Meloy is a lean and long 6-foot-1 165-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2019 class. Meloy is a strike thrower with three pitches, fastball at 78-82 mph, late cutting action, breaking ball has 11-to-5 action, has depth, 60-62 mph, throws change up with fastball arm speed, 69-72 mph, arm side release, smooth tempo, works downhill, throws slightly across body, over the top arm slot, repeats well.

Justin Nace LHP / Northland Christian , MO / 2019

Nace is a physical 6-foot-3 220-pound left-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2019 class. Nace starts with a closed stance, hides the ball, high leg kick, throws with some effort, aggressive and in line down the mound, throws with some effort, high three quarters arm slot, fastball at 82-83, occasional run, works down in zone, change up with near fastball arm speed, 71-73 mph, showed 2-to-8 slider, 68-72 mph, throws at knees, late sweeping action.

Carsen Pracht SS / RHP / Bishop Carroll, KS / 2019

Pracht is a 6-foot 160-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2019 class. Pracht has a high three quarters arm slot, loose arm action, clean delivery with body control, quick arm speed, repeats, showed command of three pitches, fastball at 79-82 mph, late running action, breaking ball has 11-to-5 shape, gradual break, has depth, starts on same plane as fastball, change up at 66-68 mph, controllable, flashes arm side sink, throws with near fastball arm arm speed, still developing physically, look for increases down the road.

Max Pretz 2B / RHP / Staley, MO / 2019

Pretz is a 5-foot-9 150-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2019 class. Pretz comes from a high three quarters arm slot, slight rotation at top of delivery, in line and controlled down the mound, finishes in athletic position, throws with regular effort, repeats, fastball at 72-74 mph, some with late life and running action, breaking ball has 11-to-5 shape, throws for a strike, 62 66-66 mph, has feel, change up at mostly 64-66 mph, slight sinking action, near fastball arm speed.

Nolan Rice RHP / OF / Blue Springs , MO / 2019

Rice is a strong 6-foot-3 205-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2019 class. Riced worked his fastball at 78-80 mph, heavy with slight sink, change up at 69-72 mph, fastball arm speed, down the zone, breaking ball has sharp 12-to-6 shape, showed command of all pitches, throws strikes, over the top release, downhill tilt, in line stride, throws some effort at the end of delivery, controlled leg lift, hands stay quiet and separate with drive down the mound, repeats simple delivery, smooth accelerated tempo.

Avery Rivero RHP / 1B / Lee's Summit West, MO / 2019

Rivero is a long legged 5-foot-11 155-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2019 class. Rivero has an over the top release, tall and fall type delivery, lands in line down the mound, throws some effort, fastball at 72-76 mph, flashing cutting action, throws for a strike, 12-to-6 shaped breaking ball, 62-64 mph, change up at 71-73 mph, fastball arm speed, controls for strike, straight. 

Mitch Thompson RHP / 1B / Staley, MO / 2019

Thompson is a lean 6-foot-1 165-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2019 class. Thompson has some deception in delivery with tempo and arm slot, three quarters release, hides ball well, controlled delivery with some increase in tempo and effort at release, in line stride, fastball at 72-73 mph, good command, throws for strike, late arm side sink, slider has 1-to-4 action, gradual break, change up at 63-64 mph, fastball arm speed, slight arm side run.

Tanner Twillman RHP / 2B / Olathe East High School, KS / 2019

Twillman is a 5-foot-11 150-pound right-handed pitcher in Kansas’ 2019 class. Twillman has a short over the top release, deliberate leg life, accelerated down the mound, lands in line with athletic finish, some downhill tilt, fastball at 72-77 mph, slight run, breaking ball has 11-to-5 shape, early break, lands for a strike, throws change up down in the zone, 64-68 mph, near fastball arm speed, slight arm side release. 

Jacob Wilson SS / RHP / Staley, MO / 2019

Wilson is a 5-foot-11 180-pound right-handed pitcher in Missouri’s 2019 class. Wilson worked fastball at 82-85 mph, throws for strike, works downhill,  throws with some effort and athleticism, high three quarters arm slot, aggressive down the mound, quick and loose arm speed, commands breaking ball, 12-to-6 shape, 65-67 mph, sharp downward action, change up at 74-76 mph, throws with near fastball arm speed, slight sink, works to the bottom of the zone, strong and athletic frame.
