Marucci Midwest Scout Day: Quick Hits
January 16, 2025
On Sunday, January 12th, the Prep Baseball Missouri staff traveled to Carthage High School in Carthage, MO to host the annual Marucci Midwest Scout Day. This event, featured 20+ players from the Marucci Midwest program in attendence.
All of our events offer players the opportunity to update their recruiting resume and showcase their talents in front of our staff. We also use these events as identifiers for future invite-only events, like the Preseason All-State, our summer Top Prospect Games, and the prestigious Prep Baseball Future Games that takes place at the tail end of the summer. Earlier, our staff rolled out the day’s statistical standouts in leaderboard format within our ‘Stat Story’, which you can find HERE. Today, after combing through our notes from the day, we’ve compiled some of the event’s standouts within these ‘Quick Hits’. Read below to learn about 6 names that popped to our staff from Sunday's trip to Carthage.
QUICK HITS
+ OF/LHP Brysen Donnell (Sapulpa, 2026; OK) emerged as a two-way follow, showing athleticism on both sides of the ball in this event. Donnell, who stands at 5-foot-11, 170-pounds with room for added strength, got the day started by running a 3.87 30 and reaching 85 mph from the outfield on his firmest throw - tops at the event. At the plate, Donnell swung a compact left-handed barrel that consistently worked line drives from gap to gap, reaching 91.4 mph on his best barrel. Afterwards, the junior hopped on the mound, pitching in the low-80s with his fastball, with a curveball/changeup mix to pair.
+ Long and projectable at 6-foot-6, 195-pounds, RHP Bryson Earp (Skiatook, 2026; OK) impressed on the mound in Sunday’s look. The junior showed command of the zone, working both sides of the plate with a four pitch mix, featuring a fastball up to 84 mph with more to come as he adds strength to his frame. Off of his fastball he spun a slider in the low-to-mid-70s and flashed a swing and miss, tumbling splitter at 70–71 mph.
+ Sunday’s event gave us a chance for another look at RHP Jackson Gamble (Nixa, 2025; Missouri Southern commit) who did not disappoint, showing a big uptick in velo on the mound. Possessing a professional frame at 6-foot-4, 215-pounds, Gamble featured a high spin fastball (2300+ average RPM) that never dipped below 90 mph in this look, peaking at 91.4 mph on the day and more to come given his ease of operation. His curveball played with depth at 76-77 mph and he threw his changeup at 78-81 mph with arm side fade, showing the ability to command the zone with both.
+ Making his Prep Baseball debut on Sunday, RHP Jonny Hyde (Siloam Springs, 2026; AR) put together an impressive showing on the mound featuring a true three pitch mix. Standing at 6-foot-3, 175-pounds with plenty of room to add size and strength, Hyde ran his fastball up to 83.5 mph, sitting from 81-83 mph with much more velo to come. His best secondary pitch at the moment looks to be his splitter which he threw at 68-73 mph with swing and miss potential. He also spun a sweeping, 2,100+ RPM curveball at 67-69 mph.
+ INF/OF Isaac White (Republic, 2025) put together an impressive round of BP in Sunday’s look. The Dodge City CC commit swung a strong right-handed barrel that consistently found the barrel with authority and loud contact throughout his round, producing the top exit velocity of the day at 95.6 mph paired with a strong average of 94.5 mph per batted ball. Additionally, White posted a 3.97 30 yard time to go along with firing a 84 mph bullet across the diamond on the infield; both among the leaders of the event.
+ LHP Jase Wilkinson (Miller, 2027) came away as one of the biggest winners of the day from our trip to Carthage on Sunday. The 6-foot-1, 165-pound southpaw consistently sat towards the top end of his 84-86 mph range with his fastball, topping out at 86.7 mph on his firmest bullet. His fastball showed carry through the top of the zone (18” average IVB) with plenty more velocity to come as he continues to add strength and size to his frame. The sophomore also spun two distinct breaking balls with a curveball at 66-67 mph and a horizontal moving slider at 75-76 mph. He also turned over a changeup at 79-80 mph.
