Missouri Bulls Scout Day: Quick Hits

Eliott Wilk
Central Region Operations Director

On Sunday, January 26th, the Prep Baseball Missouri staff traveled to Balls-n-Strikes in Cape Girardeau, MO to host the annual Missouri Bulls Scout Day. This event, featured 19 players from the Missouri Bulls program in attendence.

All of our events offer players the opportunity to update their recruiting resume and showcase their talents in front of our staff. We also use these events as identifiers for future invite-only events, like the Preseason All-State, our summer Top Prospect Games, and the prestigious Prep Baseball Future Games that takes place at the tail end of the summer. To see what our events offer, click HERE.

Earlier, our staff rolled out the day’s statistical standouts in leaderboard format within our ‘Stat Story’, which you can find HERE. Today, after combing through our notes from the day, we’ve compiled some of the event’s standouts within these ‘Quick Hits’. Read below to learn about 6 names that popped to our staff from Sunday's trip to Cape Girardeau.

QUICK HITS

+ C Rylan Mills (Oran, 2025; Southeast Missouri State Commit) put together undoubtedly the loudest round of BP on the day Sunday, and quite possibly one of the loudest in the history of Prep Baseball Missouri, shattering the state’s TrackMan exit velocity record with a 110.8 mph mark on his best barrel. Just as impressive, the senior consistently found the barrel with authority, averaging 101 mph per batted ball while also sending his best ball 408 feet on the day. The 2023 Futures Game alum continues to show added polish to his swing as well the addition of noticeable size and strength to his 6-foot, 208-pound frame. That strength carried over to behind the plate where Mills fired an 84 mph bullet from the chute - his highest mark to date.

+ A standout showing on the mound from Sunday’s look came from RHP Carter Shipman (Jackson, 2026). Standing at 5-foot-11, 190-pounds with strength throughout, Shipman used an easy, repeatable delivery to consistently pound the zone with a three pitch mix. The junior ran his fastball up to 85 mph, sitting 82-84 mph while showing advanced feel for his changeup at 74-76 mph and the ability to command both sides of the zone with his slider at 70-74 mph. Shipman will be an arm to keep and eye on with plenty more velocity to come as he continues to polish his game.

+ RHP/INF Kaden Lowery (Scott City, 2027) continued to emerge as an underclass two-way name to keep an eye on in this look. Lowery is packed with projection in a 6-foot-2, 170-pound frame with plenty of room to add on strength and size. Reaching a 91.1 mph exit velocity at the plate, it was on the mound where the sophomore really shined in this one. Lowery showed an uptick in velo, running his fastball up to 82.6 mph, sitting 79-81 mph. Off of that he spun a 60-62 mph curveball with 17.1 inches of total movement on average and turned over a changeup at 62-65 mph

+ OF Caden Chenoweth (Cape Central, 2026) came away from his Prep Baseball debut a winner after putting together a complete performance on both sides of the ball. In BP the 5-foot-10, 165-pound righty worked primarily to the pullside gap, barreling his best ball 347 feet at 92.4 mph. The junior showed a knack for the barrel, averaging 86.9 mph per batted ball. He also paced his peers in outfield velocity, firing a 88 mph bullet on his firmest through. Chenoweth will be a name to watch this spring.

+ OF Ethan Colvis (Chester, 2026; IL) put together another impressive round of BP in Sunday’s workout. With strength throughout his 6-foot-1, 190-pound frame, Colvis posted the second highest exit velocity of the day with a 95.5 mph mark on his best barrel. His rotational right handed swing consistently elevated balls throughout his round, averaging 88.1 mph per batted ball -  also second best on the day.

+ Another sophomore follow from Sunday, INF/RHP Lane Miller (Scott City, 2027) was consistently on the barrel throughout his round of BP. Miller showed increased bat strength with the addition of noticeable strength and size since our last look, barreling his best ball 92.4 mph while favoring the pull side throughout his round. He also hopped on the mound and ran his fastball up 81 mph for good measure.
