Let’s dive into the latest edition of Stock Watch, featuring four standout 2020 prospects from around the state.

DM'trice Booth OF / LHP / Oak Grove, MS / 2020

Uncommitted. The 5-foot-11, 190-pound frame looks leaner and perhaps a bit taller, Booth’s quick hands and strong wrists allowed him to drive the ball from gap-to-gap before showing off his fast, downhill running. He sets up open and in a tall with his weight slightly in the heels. Fairly still pre-pitch before separating his hands straight back with a short stride, Booth’s strong bottom hand allows him to pull the barrel through the zone on a slight uphill path. He exhibits naturally strong forearms, and has the ability to drive the ball from gap to gap.

Peyton Donaldson 1B / OF / West Harrison, MS / 2020

At 6-foot, 180-pounds he has some defined strength throughout lean, athletic frame including strong forearms that allow him quickly work the barrel through the zone. The right-handed hitter starts slightly open with his weight on the back leg rocking back with a short leg kick before selling out for fastballs on an uphill path with aggressive hips. He likely already showcases some power to the pull side, and as he continues to mature, that power should continue to grow. Showed a solid level of athleticism posting a 6.76 60-yard dash time, which translated well defensively as he moved with easy, fluid footwork around the bag at first base.

Weston Fuller RHP / 1B / Lewisburg, MS / 2020

The sturdy framed 6-foot-2, right hander worked the bottom of the zone, going in and out with his fastball which showed occasional arm side action at 81-83 mph. Though he was able to land his low-seventies curveball for strikes, I anticipate adding sharpness to the pitch could elevate him even more at the next level. However, the fastball command is solid for his age, and given his ability to repeat his polished delivery with ease, he should be able to make quick adjustments moving forward.

Christopher Snopek SS / Madison-Ridgeland Academy, MS / 2020

Uncommitted. Snopek’s consistent play at shortstop, and knack for finding the barrel at the plate stands out. He’s still gaining strength on a developing, 6-foot, 160-pound frame, so there is a bit of scoop to the path as he brings the barrel through the zone from the right side, but his ability to be on time and spray line drives from gap to gap is undeniable. He defensive actions, while not flashy, he is consistent and confident in his approach to going after ground balls, and can be counted on to make plays. As he continues to fill out frame, Snopek looks like he will adjust quickly, and gap to gap power is likely on the way.
