2021 Future Games - Position Player Recap

The tenth annual Future Games took place on July 28-31 at LakePoint in Emerson, Georgia. There were 32 teams, including Team Mississippi, with players representing 38 states plus Canadian prospects. More than 330 scouts from across the country were looking on as approximately 500 players participated in this year’s event. Mississippi took a roster of 24 players to Atlanta, and did not disappoint. 

Here a look at a few that stood out. 

Colton Coates, 2023, SS, DeSoto Central

The lean, athletic Coates looked solid as usual on defense during the Future Games workout and it carried over into game play showing some impressive hands and instincts up the middle.  At the plate Coates displayed his ability to spray balls all over the field. The switch hitter used a very aggressive, yet manageable approach. Bat path stays consistent and level resulting in tons of line drives. Look for Coates to be one of Mississippi’s first position players off the board…

Hudson Brown, 2023, 1B, Northpoint Christian

 

Brown carries his big frame (6’6”) rather well. Many guys his size tend to be very pull oriented, not Brown. The first basemen used the whole field at the Future Games, showing developing power to both gaps, with a exit velocity up to 97 mph from the workout. Solid with the glove at first base as well.

Everett “Rett” Johnson, 2023, OF, East Union

 

Johnson’s showing at the Future Games may have not been all flare when it came to the leaderboards, but the outfielder from East Union was as solid as it gets, drawing lots of attention from recruiters. His ability to play next level defense at both infield and outfield solidifies him as a true utility option with good speed (6.75) and an arm (85 mph) that can handle the longer throws on the diamond. At the plate Johnson show a slight pull side, line drive approach with developing gap power.

TJ Dunsford, 2023, 3B, East Central

 

Dunsford was a participant in the Future Games for the second time and made quite an impression during his BP round flashing a 102 mph exit velocity. The solid framed 2023 also displayed a very strong arm during his workout at third base with a 88 mph infield velocity. As he continues to develop in all areas, Dunsford could make a big splash this coming spring!
