The Mississippi Diamond Notes is back for 2025 and will focus on highlighting some top performances across the state based on nominations from high school coaches. We will highlight those positions players, pitchers and two-way players every Wednesday of the high school season that are deserving to be highlighted based on their performance. 

Thanks to the many high school coaches that sent in nominations this week.

MISSISSIPPI DIAMOND NOTES: WEEK 1

Stephen Eakes / Southeast Lauderdale, MS / 2025 The East Mississippi CC recruit picked a win over West Lauderdale after throwing a complete game (7 innings), allowing 3 runs, with 11 strikeouts.

Tanner Harris C / RHP / LAFAYETTE HIGH SCHOOL, MS / 2026 The uncommitted dual prospect threw 5 innings, allowing just 1 hit, with 9 strikeouts.

Tanner Beliveau C / 3B / PETAL HIGH SCHOOL, MS / 2025 The Mississippi State signee had a solid start to his senior season going 4-6 at the plate with 3 homers and 9 runs batted in. The big righty added 3 1/3 innings of no hit ball with 7 strikeouts.

Colt Robertson RHP / Picayune, MS / 2026  Robertson was instrumental in 2 wins last week. He picked up a win and save by throwing 8 total innings, allowing just 4 hits, 1 run, with 12 strikeouts.

Brady Griffin 1B / LHP / Florence, MS / 2025  The Hinds CC recruit threw 5 2/3 innings in his first start of the season, scattering 4 hits, allowing 1 run, with 8 strikeouts.

Maddox Miller LHP / 1B / Oak Grove, MS / 2025 The Mississippi State signee picked up 2 wins in week one throwing 4 innings, allowing no hits, with 8 strikeouts.

JD Whitaker RHP / 2B / Hamilton, MS / 2026 Whitaker, a Pearl River CC commit as a pitcher, went 5 for 9 at the plate with 3 doubles, 3 walks, 4 runs, and 3 RBI's.

Drew Stanton C / OF / Myrtle Attendance Center, MS / 2028 The former Junior Future Gamer had a solid first week as a dual performer. Stanton went 4 for 6 at the plate with 2 doubles and 5 RBI's. He also turned in a 5 inning no hitter with 6 strikeouts!

Dominic Smith RHP / 1B / North Pike, MS / 2025 Smith opened the year with a 3 inning, no hits, and 9 strikeout performance.

Isaiah Nichols OF / C / Hamilton, MS / 2028 The freshman went 3 for 6 with 2 doubles, 3 runs, and 6 runs batted in to start the year!

Paxton Dobbs C / 2B / Hamilton, MS / 2026 Dobbs opened his 2025 season with a for 4 for 7 week including 2 doubles and 6 runs batted in!

Fischer Howell 3B / RHP / Petal, MS / 2027 Howell was impressive during week one of the 2025 season going 4 for 5 with 2 home runs and 4 runs batted in.

Mac McDaniel OF / Oak Grove, MS / 2026 The uncommited outfielder opened the year going 5 for 8 with a double and 3 runs batted in!

Eric EJ Booth Jr. OF / 1B / Oak Grove, MS / 2026 The Vanderbilt commit started off his 2025 year with a 4 fot 7 week including a home run, 4 walks, and 5 runs.

Gage Thompson RHP / SS / Oak Grove , MS / 2025 The Jones College signee and 2 time Future Gamer as a pitcher went 4 for 7 with a double and 3 RBI's.

Cortez King SS / OF / RESURRECTION CATHOLIC SCHOOL - HIGH SCHOOL CAMPUS, MS / 2029 Just an 8th grader, King went 3 for 3 with 2 home runs and 5 RBI's in week 1 of the season!

Carsen Price RHP / BIGGERSVILLE HIGH SCHOOL, MS / 2028 The freshman threw a complete game (6 innings), allowing just 2 hits, 0 runs, with 7 strikeouts to start the year!

Brayden Trusty RHP / Grenada, MS / 2026 Trusty threw 2 innings, allowing 0 hits, with 4 strikeouts in the Chargers season opener!

Ray Moody OF / Myrtle Attendance Center, MS / 2025 The uncommitted senior had a solid week 1 by going 5 for 7 with a home run, a double, and 6 runs batted in!

Ryan Lamaire LHP / Ocean Springs, MS / 2026 The uncommitted junior lefty threw an impressive 5 innings versus Purvis, allowing 3 hits, 0 runs, with 9 strikeouts!
