Mississippi Diamond Notes: Week 3

The Mississippi Diamond Notes is back for 2025 and will focus on highlighting some top performances across the state based on nominations from high school coaches. We will highlight those positions players, pitchers and two-way players every Wednesday of the high school season that are deserving to be highlighted based on their performance.
Thanks to the many high school coaches that sent in nominations this week.

Wilson Rodriguez RHP / SALTILLO HIGH SCHOOL, MS / 2025Coming off Pitcher of the Week honors last week, Rodriguez threw another 7 innings, allowing 2 hits, 2 runs, with 9 strikeouts versus Corinth. |

Gage Thompson RHP / SS / Oak Grove , MS / 2025Thompson continues his strong start to 2025. The Jones College recruit threw 6 innings, allowing 4 hits, 0 earned runs, with 8 strikeouts versus MRA. |

Stephen Eakes / Southeast Lauderdale, MS / 2025The East Mississippi CC recruit threw 7 innings, allowing 4 hits, 1 earned run, with 10 strikeouts versus Newton County. He also went 6 for 12 at the plate with a homer, double, and 4 runs batted in. |

JD Whitaker RHP / 2B / Hamilton, MS / 2026Whitaker, a Pearl River CC recruit, threw 7 innings, allowing 4 hits, 3 runs, with 15 strikeouts in a win over Tishomingo County. |

Landon Holmes 1B / RHP / Hernando, MS / 2025The uncommited senior threw 5 innings, allowing 5 hits, 2 runs, with 10 strikeouts versus Tupelo. |

Brannan Overstreet SS / 3B / Hernando, MS / 2027The former Junior Future Gamer threw 5 innings, allowing 3 hits, 1 earned run, with 4 strikeouts in a win over then #1 Jackson Prep. |

Adam Smith / Houston, MS / 2025Smith picked up our Player of the Week honor after a strong week. The Holmes CC recruit went 12 for 16 at the plate with 6 doubles, 6 stolen bases, and 6 runs batted in out of the lead off spot. |

Wiley Mossy OF / OF / St. Stanislaus, MS / 2026The uncommited junior narrowly missed being named POW after going 10 for 12 with 2 homers, 5 doubles, and 6 runs batted in for the Rock-a-Chaws. |

Brady Griffin 1B / LHP / Florence, MS / 2025The Hinds CC recruit has been impressive on the mound for the Eagles, though last week he was big at the plate going 5 for 6 with 3 doubles, 4 walks, 3 runs, and 3 runs batted in. |

Sullivan Reed 3B / 1B / Lamar, MS / 2027Reed was a standout at our Preseason All State showcase and has started the 2025 season on fire. Last week he went 4 for 5 with 2 home runs, 8 runs scored, and 8 runs batted in. |

Eric EJ Booth Jr. OF / 1B / Oak Grove, MS / 2026The Vanderbilt commit continued his strong start to 2025 going 6 for 9 with a home run, triple, 5 runs, scored, and 4 runs batted in. |

Cade Koczka 1B / RHP / HERNANDO HIGH SCHOOL, MS / 2026The uncommitted junior had a solid week for the Tigers going 5 for 10 with 2 home runs while driving in 7 runners. |

Eli Housel OF / LHP / GRENADA HIGH, MS / 2027The sophomore had a great start for the Chargers going 7 innings, allowing just 1 hit, 2 runs, with 9 strikeouts versus Eupora. |
