The Mississippi Diamond Notes is back for 2025 and will focus on highlighting some top performances across the state based on nominations from high school coaches. We will highlight those positions players, pitchers and two-way players every Wednesday of the high school season that are deserving to be highlighted based on their performance. 

Thanks to the many high school coaches that sent in nominations this week.

MISSISSIPPI DIAMOND NOTES: WEEK 5

Jayden Madison RHP / OF / Petal, MS / 2025 The Mississippi Gulf Coast CC recruit threw 7 innings, allowing 2 hits, 0 runs, 0 walks, with 11 strikeouts in a win over Lafayette.

Cooper Waddle LHP / OF / Itawamba , MS / 2025 The Southern Miss recruit threw 9 innings on the week picking up a win and 2 saves for the Indians. Waddle struck out 20 total hitters in those 9 innings.

JD Whitaker RHP / 2B / Hamilton, MS / 2026 The Pearl River CC recruit threw 6 innings allowing 3 hits, 2 runs, with 11 strikeouts in a win over Christian Brothers (TN).

Braedyn Lackie OF / Hamilton, MS / 2026 Lackie threw 6 1/3 innings, allowing 3 hits, 0 earned runs, with 3 strikeouts in a win over Booneville.

Logan Flaskamp / Southeast Lauderdale, MS / 2025 Threw 5 innings, allowing 3 hits, 1 run, with 7 strikeouts in a win over Stringer.

braden necaise C / RHP / Bay high school , MS / 2024 Necaise threw a total of 9 innings on the week picking up a win and a save. He allowed 4 hits, 2 earned runs, with 16 total strikeouts. Necaise also went 5 for 11 with a home run and 5 runs batted in.

Jarrett Thomas LHP / OF / Alcorn Central, MS / 2026 Thomas threw 7 innings, allowing just 1 hit, 0 earned runs, with 6 strikeouts. He also went 4 for 9 at the plate with a double.

Brody Thompson SS / RHP / MOOREVILLE HIGH SCHOOL, MS / 2025 Thompson went 8 for 11 with a home run, 3 doubles, a triple, 4 stolen bases, and 5 runs batted in.

Ethan Barnes C / SS / Magnolia Heights, MS / 2025 The Liberty recruit went 7 for 11 with a home run, 2 doubles, 4 runs scored, and 6 runs batted in.

Cole Prosek SS / 2B / Magnolia Heights, MS / 2026 The Ole Miss recruit went 6 for 10 with a home run, double, 5 runs scored, and 3 runs batted in.

Quincy Pratt C / SS / Magnolia Heights, MS / 2027 The Ole Miss recruit went 5 for 10 with a home run, 4 runs scored, and 4 runs batted in on the week for the Chiefs.

Sawyer Bates LHP / 1B / Canton Academy, MS / 2025 Bates earned our Player of the Week honors after going 9 for 12 with 4 home runs, a double, 7 runs scored, and driving in another 11.

Bryan Travis C / 3B / Harrison Central , MS / 2025 Travis hit .429 on the week which included and home run, 2 doubles, and 3 runs batted in.

Isaiah Nichols 2B / OF / Hamilton, MS / 2028 Nichols picked up 4 hits in 8 at bats on the week with a double, 2 runs scored, and 2 runs batted in.

Stephen Eakes / Southeast Lauderdale, MS / 2025 Eakes went 4 for 5 with 2 doubles and 3 runs batted in for the Tigers.

Major Quin OF / OF / Jackson Prep, MS / 2025 Quin had 4 hits in 9 at bats on the week for the Patriots with 2 home runs, a double, and 6 runs batted in.

Noah Canten C / ALCORN CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL, MS / 2025 Canten went 7 for 15 last week with 2 home runs, a double, 7 runs scored, and 12 runs batted in.

Jayse Johnson SS / 2B / Alcorn Central, MS / 2026 Johnson went 8 for 17 with 2 doubles, 5 runs scored, 4 stolen bases, and 6 runs batted in for the Golden Bears.

Jameson Phillips OF / Sacred Heart, MS / 2027 Phillips threw a complete game shutout over Newton County Academy, allowing 2 hits, while striking out 13 hitters.

Clayton Kennedy RHP / Alcorn Central, MS / 2025 Kennedy threw a 4 inning shutout, allowing 0 hits, 0 runs, with 5 strikeouts in win over Hickory Flat.

Kayleb Munsch OF / Pass Christian, MS / 2026 Munsch went 7 fot 11 on the week with 2 doubles, 3 triples, and 6 runs batted in for the Pirates.

Jase Thomas OF / Southeast Lauderdale, MS / 2025 Thomas hit .600 on the week with 3 doubles out of the lead off spot for the Tigers.

Jackson Miller / Alcorn Central, MS / 2026 Miller picked up 9 hits in 16 at bats on the week for the Golden Bears including a double and 7 runs batted in.
