Mississippi Preseason All-State: Quick Hits

Matt Miller
State Director

MADISON, MS - The Mississippi Preseason All-State was held on Sunday, January 26th at the Southern Performance Institute in Madison, MS. This event was an invite-only event that consisted of players from the 2025-2029 classes in Mississippi. These players went through extended pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman and Blast Motion, and much more. Pitchers were able to throw during a bullpen setting and were able to get numbers and metrics off of our Trackman unit, such as pitch velocity, spin rate, horizontal & vertical movement while facing live hitters in simulated innings. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing this week.

Kicking off our post-event coverage for this event, we look at some of the top performers from the Mississippi Preseason All-State. Please continue to check back over the next week, as we will release other leaderboards along with scouting reports on all players in attendance.

QUICK HITS

Sullivan Reed 3B / 1B / Lamar, MS / 2027

Reed, a former Junior Future participant has really worked on his frame over the past couple of years and the strength is evident. The sophomore from Lamar School produced multiple loud barrels with an event high exit velocity up to 105 mph.

Deuce Jenkins 1B / OF / Jackson Academy, MS / 2027

Jenkins is another former Junior Future Gamer with big time power potential. The 2027 class is one of the more talented groups we’ve seen and Jenkins is a big part of the reason. Tremendous pull side power already (101 mph, 396 ft) and still getting better!

Ethan Dodson SS / 2B / Clinton, MS / 2026

The Pearl River CC recruit looks like he could play anywhere on the field which will help at the next level. Lots of athleticism throughout his game with a strong arm and pull side pop. Up to 88 mph across the diamond with solid hands and range.

Kade Buchanan OF / RHP / Madison Ridgeland Academy, MS / 2027

Buchanan was at our Preseason ID event last year at Holmes CC and had a look of someone we were interested in seeing again as he matured. His fastball peaked at 79 mph at the 2024 event, though on Sunday the righty from MRA was up to 87 mph and 90 from the outfield. Get to know this one.

Trey Myers SS / 2B / Mize, MS / 2026

Myers opened some eyes on Sunday as we got our first good look at him since a 2023 ID event. Another player that can do it all on the field and arguably had the best showing at the event. Myers, a Gulf Coast CC recruit, was up to 101 mph at the plate, 88 mph from the infield, 90 mph from the outfield, and then hopped on the mound and delivered fastballs up to 88 mph.

JD Whitaker RHP / 2B / Hamilton, MS / 2026

Whitaker was a Future Gamer this past summer and committed to Pearl River CC soon after. On Sunday he showed why as the righty sat 86-87 with solid arm side action and good feel for his secondary stuff including a late fading slider that should be very tough on right handed hitters.

Adam Smith / Houston, MS / 2025

The Holmes CC recruit was solid on the mound at Sunday’s event. Don’t let his smaller frame fool you, Smith showed good feel for a tight slider and change up while getting his fastball up to 86 mph and in the zone consistently with all three offerings.

Chad Davidson LHP / OF / St. Joseph Catholic, MS / 2027

We have loved this lefty since we saw him at the Magnolia State Games in June at USM. The arm is quick and loose and is developing progressively. His velocity should increase some though he’s into the low 80’s now while showing advanced pitch-ability.

Adam Clower 1B / RHP / Ocean Springs, MS / 2026

Clower has a strong frame that will continue to strengthen and as it does his fastball velocity should rise even more. On Sunday the righty from Ocean Springs was up to 86 mph though has been up to 88 mph in a previous Prep Baseball event. With developing secondary stuff as well, this arm is a must follow.

Tyler Martin 3B / 2B / Brandon, MS / 2025

We have seen Martin at a few events and he has some upside as a hitter, though on Sunday we got an extended look at this ability on the mound. The Brandon product was up to 84 mph though we feel with more seasoning his velocity will rise and secondary stuff will improve. Look forward to seeing him in game action.

Jett Smith SS / RHP / Poplarville, MS / 2028

The freshman from Poplarville showed us his developing dual role ability on Sunday. Smith will add strength which will make his tools even more impressive In time. Sunday the right hander was up to 81 mph on the mound, 85 across the infield and showed a solid fundamental swing. Prospect loading…

Tristan Fox RHP / 3B / Ocean Springs, MS / 2026

Another solid junior from Ocean Springs at the Preseason All-State event. Fox is a dual prospect with upside both as an infielder and right handed pitcher. Sunday he worked his fastball into the mid 80’s as well as his throws across the diamond. At the plate Fox showed  a line drive approach with exit velocities up to 93 mph.

Cooper Bierman 3B / RHP / Lewisburg, MS / 2026

Bierman was another former Future Gamer in attendance and looking ready for the start of the 2025 season. The Northeast MS CC recruit showed off his dual role capabilities with a solid bullpen and feel for 3 pitches while working the whole field with line drives during his batting practices round.

John Lindsey III 3B / C / Petal, MS / 2026

One of several big time power prospects at the event Lindsey made sure everyone saw him with one of the louder and more impressive rounds of the day. Yet another former Future Gamer in attendance, do not miss your pitch with this one!

Jones Roberson 1B / RHP / Washington, MS / 2027

The former Junior Future has a lightning quick bat and when he connects it's loud! Up to 101 mph exit velocities on Sunday and still developing. Solid up and coming 3B option as well. Must follow!

Tai Jones OF / RHP / Brandon, MS / 2026

The athletic junior from Brandon was up to 102 mph at the plate with line drives to the middle of the field and pull side. Strong arm from outfield as well (up to 90 mph at a previous event). Jones should be a big component as Brandon looks to repeat as the 7A Champs.

Justin Word RHP / SS / Jackson Academy, MS / 2026

We just live seeing this kid play! Word is impressive in the showcase events and is as good as anyone transferring it to the field. The Southern Miss recruit has added some muscle and it showed at the plate on Sunday with 100 mph exit velos!

Banks Teater C / 1B / Purvis , MS / 2025

On his way back from season ending surgery in 2024 Teater looks to have not missed a beat at the plate. One of the prettiest swings in the state and available. Has advanced movements behind the plate as well. Glad to see him back.

Drew McGahey LHP / OF / Clinton, MS / 2026

We didn’t know much about McGahey coming into the event but it was evident when the event ended we knew we would like to see him more. He’s part of a solid young core at Clinton and will help the Arrows both offensively and on the mound.

Nelson Barthel C / OF / Northwest Rankin, MS / 2026

Barthel has one of the more polished left handed swings in the class. His swing is built for depositing baseballs in the gaps and he does it well. Behind the plate he’s up to 81 mph and sub 2.0 pop times which makes him a very hot prospect at the moment. Someone is gonna get lucky.

Wyatt McDaniels C / OF / Mooreville, MS / 2027

McDaniels has been on the scene since he participated in the Junior Future Games a couple of years ago and has progressively improved. The 2027 has accumulated some impressive metrics which include regular sub 2.0 pop times, 83 mph catcher velo, 87 mph fastball, and now 100 mph exit velocities.

Noah Canten C / Alcorn Central, MS / 2025

Canten’s name was mentioned several times last season during our player of the week nominations and now we see why. The catcher from Alcorn Central is still uncommitted but clearly has some tools for the next level. On Sunday Canten was up to 99 mph at the plate with a catcher velocity of up to 81 mph! Go see him!
