AHSAA Roundup: Baker 5 UMS Wright 4

Baker hangs on to beat UMS 5-4.

With temperatures in the 30s, it looked like a pitchers' duel early as Baker's Brayden Brooks and UMS-Wright's Jackson Bassett worked three scoreless innings each.  Baker scored an unearned run in the bottom of the 4th. 

Baker scored four runs in the bottom of the 5th.  The Hornets capitalized on Bulldog errors to take the lead for good. Connor Gulledge and Evan Webber singled for Baker during the rally.  Drew Murray had the only RBI of the game for the Hornets. 

With one out in the 6th inning, UMS loaded the bases with three consecutive singles.  They scored two runs on an infield hit by Trey Weaver (Junior) and a groundout by Richard Brinson. Cole Dunlap got a big strikeout to get out of the inning.

With one out in the top of the 7th, Seth Davis (SR) walked, Seth Farni (FR) singled, and Trey Singleton (JR) singled.  John Rice drove in Davis on a single to cut the lead to 5-3.  Baker brought in Daniel Hadley to pitch.  UMS-Wrights' Jay Lawrence grounded out to first for out two, scoring a run making the score 5-4 with runners on 2nd and 3rd.  Hadley ended the game with a K. 

Winning Pitcher:  Brayden Brooks (4 innings, 5K, 3 BB, 2 hits)

Losing Pitcher:  Jackson Bassett (4 innings, 1K, 5 hits, 1 BB)
