Germantown Defeats Madison Central

Madison, MS - On Tuesday the Madison Central Jaguars played host to Madison County rival the Germantown Mavericks. Germantown took a late lead to defeat Madison Central 6-4.

Madison Central gave the ball to Mississippi State recruit, Regi Grace while Germantown started Hinds recruit, Connor Carter.

The Mavericks would get things going early as Mississippi State recruit Ben Bell reaches on a hard hit ball to the second baseman. After a fielder’s choice and an infield error, Mississippi State recruit, Eric Newsom was able to deliver a deep fly ball allowing the first run of the game to score. Harrison Haley, Hinds CC recruit would then follow with another hard hit ball to second base scoring the second run for the Mavericks, giving them an early 2-0 lead.

Madison Central would respond in the bottom of the second inning as Hinds recruit, Josh Cofield singled to left to get things started. Following the lead off single, Parker Nelson and Khristian Washington would get back-to-back hits and post the first run for the Jaguars. But this would not be all for Madison Central in the bottom of the second as they would score two more runs off the bat of Tucker Richmond giving them a 3-2 advantage.

Germantown would find a way to knot the score at three after back-to-back errors in the field. Being deadlocked at three would not last long as Murray Hutchinson would score the go- ahead run on a passed ball, giving the Jaguars a late 4-3 advantage.

This one run lead would be short lived as Germantown’s Harrison Haley would hit a big solo home run to lead off the sixth. The Mavericks would scratch two more in the inning and take a 6-4 lead with only six outs left.

Now with the lead and the late inning momentum the Mavericks would make a pitching change going with Harrison Haley. Halely would work for the last two innings and allow zero hits while striking out three, giving the Germantown Mavericks a 6-4 victory.
