The 2023 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Mississippi.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Pearl, MS at Trustmark Park as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Mississippi. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Magnolia State.

Team Outlook:

The Gulfport Admiral are gearing up for what could be a very exciting 2023 season. Coach Jamie Mcmahan returns a dynamic core group of players that should put them right in the thick of things in the 6A division. 

Looking to lead Gulfport into the spring are a couple of arms that are capable of shutting down just about any lineup. Senior Josh Lee (RHP - Southeastern LA) and junior Ethan Surowiec (3B/RHP - Ole Miss) will bolster the pitching staff, with Niko Williams contributing quality innings as well. 

Seniors Jacob Palazzo (OF - Gulf Coast CC), Dawson Hall (1B - Gulf Coast CC), and Nathaniel Edwards (INF) will provide leadership along with production in the lineup. Juniors Ethan Garner (OF - Tulane), Niko Williams, and Ethan Surowiec have plenty of pop in their sticks and will make opposing pitchers wonder when “will this get easier.” A couple of more 2024’s looking to add some juice to lineup include Joel Smith  and Prince Cottonham. 

Sophomore Davis Ormes looks to be the candidate to take over the catching duties for the Admiral.
