MS High School Team Preview: Heritage Academy Patriots

PBR Mississippi Staff

The 2023 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Mississippi.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Pearl, MS at Trustmark Park as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Mississippi. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Magnolia State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each MHSAA classification as well as a Power 25.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Team Outlook:

Heritage Academy will be going through somewhat of a rebuilding phase after losing 7 seniors with significant playing time in 2022. The Patriots return 4 positional starters and 2 top arms and though with a very youthful and inexperienced roster, head coach Chris Ball will still look to be very competitive in 2023.

Seniors Carson Hollis (C/INF) and Lane Goodman (OF) will lead the young group into the spring. Hollis finished with 23 RBI’s last year and will be expected to produce once again from the heart of the order.

Two juniors looking to step up in 2023 are Jack Ketchum (INF/RHP) and Spencer Singley (INF/RHP). Ketchum had a very solid 2022 hitting .359 and driving in 26 runs while also picking up 3 wins from the mound in 37 innings. Singley added 22 quality innings as well. These two arms will look to carry the load on the bump for the Patriots.

Sophomores Adyn Westmoreland (OF) and Dalton Stripling (MIF), along with freshman Charlie Fowler (C/OF) are underclassmen expected to make big contributions this spring. Others that will be looking to take big steps are Nash McCrory (OF) and Cooper Long (3B/C).

With several young players getting important game experience this season the Patriots should remain competitive for the foreseeable future in the 5A ranks.
