MS High School Team Preview: New Site Royals

PBR Mississippi Staff

The 2023 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Mississippi.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Pearl, MS at Trustmark Park as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Mississippi. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Magnolia State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each MHSAA classification as well as a Power 25.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

District Number: District 1

No. of Returning Positional Starters: 6

Top Returning Players:

  • 3B/RHP Troy Taylor
  • UTL/RHP Landon Stanley
  • INF/RHP JB Stacy

Team Outlook:

Head Coach Luke Goff is optimistic heading into the 2023 season as he returns 6 positional starters and 3 arms from last year’s team that finished with record of 11-12. The Royals will have the luxury of sending over 100 innings worth of pitching from last season back to the mound and 3 of the top offensive producers back to the plate.

Top returners for New Site include senior Troy Taylor (3B/RHP), junior JB Stacy (2B/3B/RHP), and sophomore Landon Stanley (SS/C/RHP). Taylor led the team with a .410 average last season while also picking up 5 mound wins and will again be expected to provide production on both sides of the ball for the Royals in 2023. Coach Goff will also look to Stacy and Stanley to pick up where they left off in 2022, with both proving themselves as dual threats on the diamond as well.

Look for the Royals to go to battle in district play this spring with eyes on returning to the 2A state playoffs.
