Each week during the high school season, the PBR Mississippi Staff has put together a collection of Diamond Notes of the top performers on the field.

As the high school season has shifted towards the MHSAA & MAIS High School Playoffs, we have put together a list of top performers from Round One of the playoffs and will continue to do so throughout the remainder of the season.

Drew Davis C / RHP / Sumrall, MS / 2027 Davis threw a 5 inning no hitter with 7 strikeouts against Richland in the 1st round of the 4A state playoffs. The eight grader is having a season to remember for the Bobcats with a perfect 11-0 record, including a 0.66 ERA in 42 innings.

Phillip Herring 1B / 3B / Greene County, MS / 2023 Rankings  StateRank: 122 / POS: 6 Herring was very productive in a series win over North Pike. The senior connected on 3 home runs and 7 runs batted in 2 wins for the Wildcats.

Josh Lee RHP / Gulfport , MS / 2023 Rankings  StateRank: 29 / POS: 5 Lee threw a no hitter in a playoff win over St. Martin. The Southeastern Louisiana recruit worked 7 scoreless innings and picked up 14 strikeouts on the night for the Admirals.

Hudson Mattox 3B / RHP / Kirk Academy, MS / 2023 Rankings  StateRank: 10 / POS: 2 OverallRank: 315 / POS: 17 Mattox was dominant on the night with a complete game 1 hitter versus Indianola Academy. The PBR Super 60 participant also had 18 strikeouts, and in the two games also was productive at the plate going 4-6, while picking up 2 triples and 4 runs batted in.

Chase Russell 1B / RHP / Madison Central, MS / 2024 Rankings  StateRank: 17 / POS: 1 Russell threw a no hitter versus Southaven in the first round of the 6A playoffs. The Southern Miss commit added 5 strikeouts in his 5 scoreless innings.

Ethan Surowiec 3B / RHP / Gulfport, MS / 2024 Rankings  StateRank: 4 / POS: 1 OverallRank: 187 / POS: 16 Surowiec went 5-8 in two wins over St. Martin. The Ole Miss recruit added a home run, 2 doubles, and 7 runs batted during the series for the Admirals.

Noah Westbrook RHP / Taylorsville, MS / 2025 Westbrook continued his stellar freshman season throwing a complete game shutout in a 1-0 win over Noxapater in the first round of the 1A state playoffs. Westbrook ran his record to 6-0 with 84 strikeouts on just 52 innings on the year for the Tartars.

Brady Saxton OF / LHP / Northwest Rankin, MS / 2025 Rankings  StateRank: 27 / POS: 2 Saxton was 4 for 6 in 2 first round playoff wins over Oak Grove. The uncommitted sophomore added 2 runs batted in and scored 3 times himself.

Tucker Jones 2B / RHP / Pearl, MS / 2018 Rankings  StateRank: 146 / POS: 7 Jones went 5 for 8 in a series win over Oak Grove. The Copiah Lincoln CC recruit added a home run, 3 runs batted in, and 3 runs scored in the series.

Langston Cotten 2B / Northwest Rankin, MS / 2022 Cotten went 3 for 6 in a first round series win over Oak Grove last week. The East Central CC recruit connected on a home run, a double, while driving in 2, and scoring 3 times in 2 games.

Dawson Muenzenmay RHP / OF / Northwest Rankin, MS / 2023 Rankings  StateRank: 53 / POS: 12 Muenzenmay had a big time outing in a first round match up with Oak Grove. The Hinds CC recruit threw 6 scoreless innings, scattering 3 hits, while striking out 4 in a big win for the Cougars.

Gabriel Hodges C / RHP / Northwest Rankin , MS / 2025 Rankings  StateRank: 18 / POS: 6 Hodges was outstanding in a series ending game over Oak Grove. The sophomore threw 5 1/3 innings giving up 2 runs on only 1 hit, while striking out 9 on the night for the Cougars.
