Mid-Mississippi Classic: Day One Action

Ronald Sims
Mississippi Scouting Director

Jackson, MS - The first couple weeks of the Mississippi High School Baseball season present an opportunity to cover teams from across the state competing in multiple tournaments. This gives recruiters, evaluators and the Prep Baseball Report scouting staff the chance to see a number of players in a short amount of time. Included in today’s Mississippi Scout Blog are notes on several players we caught in action on opening day of the Mid Mississippi Classic Tournament.

Kelly Crumpton, RHP, Jackson Prep, 2021
Mississippi recruit. Long-limb 6-foot-3, 175-pound projectable frame. The right-hander works from a high-¾ slot with a loose arm stroke. He pitched at 83-88 mph for six innings with his fastball receiving a lot of swing and misses on this pitch. The breaking ball had good rotation and depth at 73-75 mph, and should continue to improve as he gains varsity innings. Crumpton walked two and allowed four hits while striking out 11 and was very effective through six innings.
