Matt Miller
State Director

Hernando, MS - The North Mississippi/West Tennessee Rising Stars ID was held on Saturday, April 1st at the the Gatorade Fieldhouse (Elevate) in Hernando, MS. This event was an open event that consisted of some of the top prospects from the 2027-2028 classes from both Mississippi and Tennessee. These players went through extended pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman, ran the 60 yard dash using Swift Performance, and much more. Pitchers were able to throw in simulated bullpens during the workout and were able to get numbers and metrics. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing on Saturday.

Kicking off our post-event coverage for this event, we take a look back at some of the top performers and standouts from Saturday. Continuing over the course of the next week or so, we will release different statistical leaderboards for the event along with other pieces of content.

quick hits

+ INF Grayson Rymer (Tri-County Academy, 2028) first caught our attention during the infield evaluations this past weekend at our North Mississippi / West Tennessee Rising Stars event. Rymer was used very quick footwork, good hands, and a solid arm to show next level possibilities from the middle infield positions. He then stepped up to the plate and worked the middle of the field with several line drives while keep his hands inside the baseball well with controlled aggression in the swing.

+ 3B/RHP Brady Rogers (Lewisburg, 2027) will continue to become more polished as his body matures though his movement patterns on the infield are very good for his age. Rogers has soft hands and a good arm which should allow him to settle in nicely as a solid defender at the corner infield positions. Rogers has length and leverage to his swing with slight loft which could allow him to develop into a power threat in time. The righty was most impressive on the mound showing a very quick arm with his fastball already reaching 80 mph with more on the way.

+ INF/OF Donovan Dickson (Hernando, 2027) had advanced pop for his age as the 8th grader worked the middle of the diamond well using a very quick bat and a solid line drive approach. Dickson also showed his versatility as he performed well in both the infield and outfield evaluations during the event.

+ SS/RHP Jaxzen Scheidt (Munford, 2027) has a very wiry frame that will sturdy up in time allowing him to really excel on the diamond. Scheidt moves well now though its evident he could be very good as the body matures. On the infield he shows solid glove work, range, while building arm strength. At the plate he has leverage and developing bat speed, with slight loft to his swing. Look forward to seeing him in the future.

+ C/RHP Will Britt (Lakeland Prep, 2027) has some very good developing tools at multiple spots on the diamond. Behind the plate Britt, has quick still developing footwork, though its apparent he has plenty of upside. At the plate, he had multiple mid 80's exit velocities using a swing that plays well for his age and will continue to become more polished. On the mound Britt had the highest fastball velocity for the event at 84 mph. As his tools develop, look for him to gain lots of attention from recruiters.

+ C/3B Blake Lipe (Hernando, 2027) was the most polished receiver at the event and has some definite upside at the position. The 8th grader used very good footwork, a quick easy transfer, and strong arm to record consistent low pop times with an event best 2.02. At the plate, Lipe may have shown the most mature approach with balance and sturdiness to his swing with a solid line drive middle of the diamond approach.

+ OF Crews Albritton (Tri-County Academy, 2027) was the top power bat at the event with multiple 90 plus exit velocity recordings, and an event high of 94 mph. Albritton used a fairly level bat path that should allow for tons of gap destruction in the future. He also showed off a strong arm from the outfield with several low 80 mph readings.

+ 1B/LHP Axton Westmoreland (Hernando, 2028) stepped on the mound and turned heads as he may arguably have the most upside of any pitcher at the event. Using a very fluid and loose arm, Westmoreland stayed near the zone while showing good feel for most of his offerings. His fastball was in the mid 70's though with his frame that could be in the mid 80's in the future as the body matures and he shows no restrictions in his arm path.

+ SS/RHP Preston Sumner (Collierville, 2027) used a fairly polished and mature left handed swing with good pop and slight loft. Sumner showed a pull side approach with exit velocities holding steady in the mid to upper 80's on Saturday. The 8th grader also showed developing footwork on defense with fluid, controlled movements while gaining arm strength.

+ SS/RHP Tallen VanOrtwick (Maryville, 2028) is another young player waiting on body maturity. The 7th grader has very controlled movement patterns and in the near future could begin to see very beneficial changes to his game. The arm works well, his feet are developing, and the swing, though not sturdy yet, should to solidify soon allowing him to drive the ball with more pop.
