The Prep Baseball Report Mississippi scouting staff recently sat down with the PBR Mississippi Open standout and 3A player of the year to discuss his recent commitment to Pearl River Community College. Below is a transcript of our question and answer session:

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process?
Myers: I didn't expect the recruiting process to be anything like it was. I thought it would be easy but it takes a lot to figure out what school you want to attend. You only get to make the right choice one time, so I took my time and chose which school I thought would benefit me the most.

PBR: Did location or distance from home play a factor in your decision? 
Myers: Yes. I didn't want to go too far away because I want my family to be able to come see me play.

PBR: Where did the college you chose first see you? How did your relationship develop with them?
Myers: I believe they saw me for the first time playing for my high school. Coach Izzio from PRCC text me one day and we have talked every day since. He let me know how much he wanted me and we just talked baseball a lot.

PBR: Who is the best player you have faced in your state, and why?
Myers: The best player I have faced in my state would have to be Dexter Jordan from Hattiesburg. You can't take anything away from him. He is deadly at the plate and he has a cannon in the field. You can't really ask for a better player. He can play any position on the field and look comfortable doing it.

PBR: At what point in your career did you realize you were an elite player and became serious about taking your game to the next level?
Myers: It would have to be the summer coming into my junior year. I had felt like I was good but I didn't know how good I could be. I started taking things serious by getting into the cages more often and taking the weight room serious and just working harder overall.

PBR: What were you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career at?
Myers: I was looking for someone who played the game fast and somewhere I could play right away, and most importantly academics, which I take very seriously.

PBR: What is your best attribute as a baseball player and how does that transfer onto the field for your team?
Myers: I feel like I lead by example very well. I don't talk much and I'm not very good at explaining things so I try to show the guys on the team how to do things by doing it myself.

PBR: What part of your game needs the biggest improvement, why, and what will you do to improve it?
Myers: All parts of my game need improvement. I feel like if I'm not working then someone else is.

PBR: What advice would you give to young baseball players striving to get where you are? Myers: Don't try to be like me. Try to be better than me. Never let anyone tell you that you are too small or you can't do anything. If you put your mind to it you can do it.

PBR: What do you do in the offseason to keep yourself in baseball shape and prepare for the upcoming season?
Myers: I lift weights, run, and play baseball. I play ball during the summer and the fall. Right after fall ball is over it's almost time to play in the spring. Don't take too much time away from the game. If you let it sit too long it's going to rot.

PBR: What do you like most about the college you committed to and what were the key factors in making your decision?
Myers: I love that I get to play with two other guys from my high school. The coaches are amazing and I have a great relationship with them already and they will push me to be the best I can be.

PBR: What other schools were on your short list before you made your final decision?
Myers: It was mainly between JCJC and PRCC. PRCC just felt more like home. Nothing against Jones they have a good thing going for them too and I look forward to squaring off against them.
