Rising Stars Fall Showcase: Quick Hits

Matt Miller
State Director

Pearl, MS - The Rising Stars Fall ID was held on Saturday, October 15th at Trustmark Park, home of the Mississippi Braves. This event consisted of prospects in the 2027-2028 classes. These players went through a pro-style workout and took batting practice using Trackman to record hitting metrics. Pitchers were able to throw in a bullpen setting and were able to get numbers and metrics off of our Trackman unit, such as pitch velocity, spin rate, horizontal & vertical movement & much more. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing this weekend.

Kicking off our post-event coverage for these events, we take a look back at some of the top performers and standouts from the weekend. Continuing over the course of the next week or so, we will release Statistical Leaderboards for the event.

QUICK HITS

Tucker Rice, Madison Central (MS), 2027
+ Rice showed a very solid though still developing skill set on Saturday at Trustmark Park. The middle infielder showed good footwork and range on all groundball angles with clean exchanges and a strong accurate arm. Rice has upside on the mound with loose, lengthy, and clean arm action with feel for multiple pitches in the strike zone.

Tanner Walsworth, Leake Academy (MS), 2027
+ Wadsworth is a big bodied up and coming left handed slugger. The first baseman showed lots of present pop (up to 89 exit velocity) and can drive the baseball to all fields with aggression. On defense, Walsworth displayed sure hands and an accurate arm.

Wyatt McDaniels, Mooreville (MS), 2027
+ McDaniels was a member of Team Mississippi at this past summer's Junior Future Games and looks to have already added to his skill set. The catcher was once again solid with his footwork, showing a strong accurate arm and advanced blocking ability during his defensive evaluations. At the plate, the 9th grader found plenty of barrels with an exit velocity in the upper 80’s.

Landon Swinney, Tupelo (MS), 2027
+ Swinney was another well rounded young player from our Rising Stars event. The 2027 from Tupelo showed defensive upside in both the infield and outfield, while putting together a batting practice round with lots of consistency using a swing that featured a solid line drive pull side approach.

Mason Ballard, Tupelo (MS), 2027
+ Ballard has gained 11 mph from behind the plate since last year and is a definite must follow for recruiters. The Tupelo 9th grader registered pop times in the 2.03 - 2.13 range with quick transfers and accuracy on his throws to second. At the plate, Ballard used a level bat path to rattle off several line drives, working the middle of the field very well.
