Prep Baseball Report

Team Preview: Num. 16 Brandon

Ronald Sims
Mississippi Scouting Director

The Mississippi high school season kicks off on February 26, the first day for regular season games. Most teams will begin practicing on January 29, getting their rosters set and finalizing their lineups.

Over the next several weeks, leading up to opening day, we will be rolling out team previews of high school teams all across the state and across all classifications, eventually launching our Preseason Power 25.

We have been sending out our annual Preseason Questionnaire to coaches all across the state and as the responses flood in we will bring you a snapshot of what to expect along with top players and keys to success for that particular team. If you don’t see your team’s season preview make sure your head coach fills out his Preseason Questionnaire.

Outlook

In his first season as the skipper at Brandon, Coach Daniel Best looks to build on the 22-8 record from a season ago. Inheriting a host of talent, Coach Best should be in a nice position to do just that.  The Bulldogs return a deep presence on the mound with Wesley Walker, Mitchell Martin and Canon Harvey that combined to throw over 67 innings with nearly 100 strike outs. At the plate, Tristan Tigrett (Hinds CC commit) and brother Gentry Tigrett return after a productive 2018 season where they hit .338 and .352 respectively. The Bulldogs also picked up a big offensive addition during the off-season with the top player in Mississippi's 2020 class, Kellum Clark which should prove to be huge considering how the ball flies at there home field.

Although in his first season, Coach Best knows how to win and look for that to be no different in Brandon with this talented roster.
