Team Preview: Num. 20 Purvis

The Mississippi high school season kicks off on February 26, the first day for regular season games. Most teams will begin practicing on January 29, getting their rosters set and finalizing their lineups.
Over the next several weeks, leading up to opening day, we will be rolling out team previews of high school teams all across the state and across all classifications, eventually launching our Preseason Power 25.
We have been sending out our annual Preseason Questionnaire to coaches all across the state and as the responses flood in we will bring you a snapshot of what to expect along with top players and keys to success for that particular team. OUTLOOK
Coming in at Num. 20 in our Preseason Power25 are the Purvis Tornadoes. Returning six position players and four pitchers that saw action last season on a 23 win team, Coach Tony Farlow has high expectations for this group. Leading the charge for the Tornadoes will be Jesse Johnson, who is coming off an impressive sophmore season where he finished with a batting average of .427 and drove in 40 runs while posting 56 inning on the mound with 80 strikeouts. Seniors Mason Kendrick and Casey Burge will also be important pieces to the success of the club as they drove in a combined 40 runs during the 2018 season. Although the offensive numbers from a season ago are impressive, the depth of the pitching staff will be huge in the success of the 2019 club.
