Team Preview: Num. 21 Ripley

The Mississippi high school season kicks off on February 26, the first day for regular season games. Most teams will begin practicing on January 29, getting their rosters set and finalizing their lineups.
Over the next several weeks, leading up to opening day, we will be rolling out team previews of high school teams all across the state and across all classifications, eventually launching our Preseason Power 25.
We have been sending out our annual Preseason Questionnaire to coaches all across the state and as the responses flood in we will bring you a snapshot of what to expect along with top players and keys to success for that particular team. Outlook
Coming in at Num. 21 in our Preseason Power25 are the Ripley Tigers. After winning 22 games and a district title in 2018 with a senior heavy lineup, Coach Joel Gafford and the Ripley Tigers have moderate expectations in 2019. Returning only three starters and two pitchers, the Tigers will need several young players to come in and have a big role. Providing an offensive spark in the lineup will be East Mississippi CC signee Will Long and Itawamba CC signee Ben Fryar. Several interesting underclassmen to keep an eye will include RHP Cade Davis, C/INF Hayden Fortune and OF/RHP Jak Ketchum. The experience the Tigers gained last year, and a solid group of young talent should go a long way in making for an interesting 2019 season.
