The summer is nearing an end, and many players have vaulted forward as prospects on the rise, though the search for rising prospect never ceases in the recruiting world. This weekend, the PBR Mississippi scouting staff was in Hattiesburg, MS for the USM Summer Showcase camp and in Jackson, MS for the Best of the South Tournament. Here is a quick recap of a couple players that caught the eyes of the scouting staff.

+ Joshua Day, RHP, Jefferson County, 2018
Day has a long and athletic frame with room for added strength. In his bullpen, Day showcased an easy, clean arm action with in-line direction and regular effort. Throwing from a high-3/4 release, Day sat 82-83 mph and command fastball down in zone. Flashed a breaking ball at 69 mph with developing spin and a changeup that showed fading action at 75 mph.

+ Preston Johnson, RHP, Copiah Academy, 2018
With a strong, physical frame, Johnson sat 86-87 mph in bullpen from a high-3/4 release and easy arm action. He also showed a breaking ball with developing action at 71-72 mph and a changeup with developing command.

+ Mason Smith, RHP/OF, Northeast Jones, 2020
On the mound, Smith, showed quality arm speed with fastball sitting 83 mph, but there is much more in the tank, and it will come soon as he continues to grow. Delivering out of a high ¾ slot, Smith’s hand speed was impressive, producing a breaking ball with solid depth at 70 mph and a change with fading action at 75-76 mph.

+ Jacob Payne, RHP, Madison Central, 2020
Payne sat 81-83 with a loose, whippy arm action that delivers out of a high-3/4 slot. The young right-hander repeats his delivery while showing off his athleticism getting down the mound. His breaking ball is thrown at 68-70 mph with near fastball hand speed, and late action.

+ Ty Hill, OF, Saltillo, 2018
At the plate, Hill hits from a wide, balanced setup with high hands. His hands are quick, and while being a front foot hitter, the ball comes off his bat firmly with line drives flying from gap to gap with occasional pull side power.
