Central Mississippi Preseason ID: Quick Hits

MADISON, MS - The Central Mississippi Preseason ID was held on Sunday, January 19th at Madison-Ridgeland Academy in Madison, MS. This event consisted of players from the 2025-2029 classes in Mississippi. These players went through extended pro-style workout that included batting practice using Trackman and Blast Motion, ran the 60-yard dash using VALD Performance, and much more. Pitchers were able to throw during gameplay and were able to get numbers and metrics off of our Trackman unit, such as pitch velocity, spin rate, horizontal & vertical movement while facing live hitters in simulated innings. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing this week.
Continuing our post-event coverage for this event, we look at some of the top performers from the Central Mississippi Preseason ID. Please continue to check back over the next week, as we will release other leaderboards along with scouting reports on all players in attendance.

Brad Marrero Jr OF / RHP / Sacred Heart Catholic, MS / 2025The uncommitted senior from Sacred Heart showed next level ability in multiple areas on Sunday. Marrero used a level bat path with a middle of the field approach and exit velocities up to 92 mph during his batting practice round. He looks comfortable in the outfield and with cooler temps he was up to 84 mph with accuracy on throws to the plate. Look for the 5-10, 180 pounder to be a catalyst for the Crusader offense in 2025.

Kelly Burgess SS / RHP / ENTERPRISE SCHOOL, MS / 2026Burgess had a solid showing throughout the event in several areas. The 5-11, 170 pounder from Enterprise was a standout during batting practice with multiple line drives sprayed to all fields and velocities up to 92 mph. On defense he used fluid movements and solid glove work with accurate throws to first base. The uncommitted right hander was up to 84 mph on the mound with good feel for his secondary offerings.

Jaylen Lee OF / 1B / Petal , MS / 2028Though he still has quite a bit of development ahead of him, Lee showed some serious upside at the plate during his batting practice round. His swing is long but has leverage and plenty more pop on the way. The 6-2, 180 pound freshman ran well (7.09), though he should get faster as his body matures. Lee moves well in the outfield and has developing arm strength. We look forward to following his progression.

Nash Segrest C / 1B / Madison Ridgeland Academy, MS / 2027The next calendar year could be very beneficial for Segrest. The 6-1, 180 pounder moves well and shows solid fundamentals in several areas. The sophomore was up to 91 mph during his batting practice round with some developing pop and mostly a line drive, middle of the field approach. Segrest looked solid behind the plate with good footwork and transfers. As his arm gets stronger expect his pop times (2.06) to get even better.

Joshua Parker SS / OF / Jackson Prep, MS / 2028The freshman opened some eyes with his 6.7 60 yard dash on a cold day to start the event. He still has a young look to his 5-10, 155 pound frame so that time should get even better with maturity. At the plate Parker used a conventional load and stride with some aggression into contact and developing pop to his pull side. In the outfield, he used athletic feet with a strong arm (83 mph) and accuracy on throws to the plate. |
