The 2025 Mississippi high school baseball season is quickly approaching and, as usual, excitement is abound throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Mississippi.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons at Pearl’s Trustmark Park, in the State Tournament finals at the end of May, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Mississippi. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 25 rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action.

2025 OUTLOOK

+ Alcorn Central returns 5 positional starters and 7 pitchers from last year’s roster that finished 17-17 after a 3rd round loss in the 3A State Playoffs. Head Coach Trae Bain believes the starting pitching of his Bears, along with team speed and experience at the front end of the lineup will be keys to a successful 2025 season. 

Top returners for Alcorn Central include seniors Noah Canten (C/RHP/UT) and Hunter Koehlinger (RHP/3B), along with juniors Jarrett Thomas (LHP/OF), Jackson Miller (RHP/UT), and Jayse Johnson (SS/UT).

Canten will carry over plenty of production from last season after hitting a team leading .437 with 4 home runs and 42 runs batted in. Miller added 24 RBI’s to go along with his .300 batting average, while Johnson drove in 19 more. The crafty Thomas leads all returners with 52 innings on the mound last season after going 6-5 with 3.23 ERA with 71 strikeouts. 

Coach Bain will also expect contributions from sophomores Ty Whitten (UT/RHP) and Hunter Parks (LHP/1B), as well as freshmen Zane Depoyster (LHP/OF), Tucker Kaufman (C/UT), and Braylen Parrish (RHP/UT). 

Alcorn Central will begin regular season play on February 15th versus Faulkner.
