Mississippi HS Team Preview: Florence Eagles

The 2025 Mississippi high school baseball season is quickly approaching and, as usual, excitement is abound throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Mississippi.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons at Pearl’s Trustmark Park, in the State Tournament finals at the end of May, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Mississippi. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 25 rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action.

2025 OUTLOOK

+ Florence returns 5 positional starters and 3 pitchers from last year’s team that finished 16-14 after a 1st loss in the 5A State Playoffs. Head Coach Josh Anderson is counting on the overall game experience and pitching as key components to a successful 2025 spring for his Eagles.

Top returners for Florence include seniors RJ Davis (LHP/1B), Noah Reynolds (RHP/OF), Brady Griffin (LHP/1B/OF), Rylan McFall (OF), Hayden Boykin (2B), and Andrew Woods (RHP/3B), juniors Bryan Davis (UT), Jaboris Buckley (UT), and Austin Pickett C/RHP).

Bryan Davis returns after leading the Eagles with a .395 batting average while driving in 17 runs. McFall and Woods each contributed 18 RBI’s as well. Transfer Brady Griffin will help bolster the offensive attack. RJ Davis will look to lead the pitching staff after a solid 2024 season where he finished with a3.98 ERA and 70 strikeouts. 

Florence will begin regular season play on February 14th versus Clinton.
