Mississippi HS Team Preview: Grenada Chargers

Prep Baseball Mississippi Staff

The 2025 Mississippi high school baseball season is quickly approaching and, as usual, excitement is abound throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Mississippi.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons at Pearl’s Trustmark Park, in the State Tournament finals at the end of May, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Mississippi. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 25 rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week and updating the Power 25 rankings.

2025 OUTLOOK

+ Grenada returns 7 positional starters and 7 pitchers from last year’s team that finished 22-11 after a 2nd round loss in the 6A State Playoffs. Head Coach Justin Flake is counting on pitching, defense, and overall team speed to be key components for a deeper run in 2025.

Top returners for Grenada include senior Preston Downs (C/DH, Meridian CC recruit), juniors Drew Klinck (SS/RHP), Ty Edwards (INF/RHP), and Hayden Lee (OF), along with sophomores Eli Housel (LHP/OF) and Daniel Hopper (OF/RHP).

Downs led the offensive attack for the Chargers with a .388 batting average, 4 home runs, and 20 runs batted in. Klinck (.360, 16 RBI), Edwards (.286, 19 RBI), Hopper (18 RBI), and Lee (14 RBI) will look to help push runners across the plate in 2025. Housel is in charge of holding opposing offenses in check after a solid 2024 where he went 5-2 with a 2.77 ERA including 46 strikeouts.

Other Chargers looking to make their mark will be senior DeAndre Rimmer (OF), junior Brayden Trusty (INF/RHP), and sophomore Paxton Surrell (C).

Grenada will begin regular season play on February 11th versus Jackson Prep.
