The 2025 Mississippi high school baseball season is quickly approaching and, as usual, excitement is abound throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Mississippi.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons at Pearl’s Trustmark Park, in the State Tournament finals at the end of May, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Mississippi. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 25 rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action.

2025 OUTLOOK

+ Heritage Academy returns 6 positional starters and 9 pitchers from a roster that ended last season at 17-16 following a 1st round in the MAIS 5A State Playoffs. Head Coach Zander Romano will look to the overall experience of his Patriots as they look to a competitive 2025 season. 

Top returners for Heritage Academy include seniors Adyn Westmoreland (OF, East Mississippi CC signee) and Kaden Avery (INF/OF), juniors Nash McCrary (INF/OF/RHP), Cooper Long (INF/RHP), Isaiah Clark (INF/OF), Jack Tompkins (INF/RHP), Colin Cunningham (INF/LHP), Charlie Fowler (C/OF).

McCrary led all returners with a .352 batting average with 2 home runs and 17 RBI’s. He along with Fowler, Westmoreland, Clark, and Avery all had double digit runs batted in during the 2024 season. McCrary also led all returners with 38 innings on the mound, posting a 1.83 ERA with 41 strikeouts. Cunningham (31 innings) and Tompkins (26 innings) will be other “go to’ arms for the Patriots with Long (14 K’s in 10 innings) ready to make his mark as well. 

Coach Romano will also look to sophomore Presley Gaskin (INF/RHP) for added production.  

Heritage Academy will begin regular season play on February 6th versus Hartfield Academy.
