Mississippi HS Team Preview: New Hope Trojans

The 2025 Mississippi high school baseball season is quickly approaching and, as usual, excitement is abound throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Mississippi.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons at Pearl’s Trustmark Park, in the State Tournament finals at the end of May, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Mississippi. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 25 rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action.

2025 OUTLOOK

+ New Hope returns 6 positional starters and 4 pitchers from last year’s team that finished 23-12 after a 3rd loss in the 5A State Playoffs. Head Coach Lee Boyd is counting on overall pitching and defense as his Trojans look to be very competitive in 2025.

Top returners for New Hope include Austin Minichino (INF/RHP, Southeastern LA signee), Tripp Price (C, East MS CC signee), Mason Ellis (RHP/INF, East MS CC signee), ands Conner Lewis (RHP/OF, East MS CC signee), along with juniors Brayden Edmiston (1B) and Dalton Elmore (DH). 

Minichino will be a big lift as he comes back from a season ending injury in 2024. Edmiston is the top offensive returner statistically after hitting .344 with 22 runs batted in. Ellis (20 RBI), Price (14 RBI), and Lewis (10 RBI) will look to provide production as well. Lewis  (9-4, 2.98 ERA, 56 K’s) and Ellis (6-4, 2.55 ERA, 51 K’s) are expected to keep opposing offenses in check. 

Other Trojans expected to make an impact will be seniors Dalton Stripling (INF, Northeast MS CC signee) and Brett Williamson (OF), as well as sophomores Juice Tate (INF/RHP), Jack Moore (RHP/C), and Carson Willis (CI/RHP). 

New Hope will begin regular season play on February 11th versus Itawamba AHS.
