Mississippi HS Team Preview: Pearl River Central Blue Devils

The 2025 Mississippi high school baseball season is quickly approaching and, as usual, excitement is abound throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Mississippi.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons at Pearl’s Trustmark Park, in the State Tournament finals at the end of May, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Mississippi. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 25 rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action.

2025 OUTLOOK

+ Pearl River Central enters the 2025 season with high expectations, returning a strong core from last year’s 28-10 squad that reached the third round of the 6A State Playoffs. Head Coach Buddy Turnage will rely on team speed, pitching depth, and solid defense as the Blue Devils aim for another deep postseason run.

Leading the way for PRC are seniors Sam Tumminello (C) and Konnor Cazenave (RHP, Southwest MS CC signee), along with juniors Blake Gill (OF) and Roman Mitchell (RHP/INF). Sophomores JJ Morreale (OF) and Kendall Morrison (OF) are also expected to play key roles.

Morrison (.311, 18 RBI), Gill (.300, 22 RBI), and Morreale (.297, 25 RBI) return as the team’s primary offensive producers and will look to provide consistent run support. On the mound, Mitchell (6-2, 2.09 ERA), Morreale (4-0, 2.88 ERA), and Cazenave (3-2, 2.01 ERA) anchor a pitching staff ready to lead the Blue Devils into battle.

Other players expected to contribute include junior Parker Harper (2B), sophomores Luke Herring (SS) and Ayden Radosta (1B/P), as well as freshmen Eric Mavor (UT/P) and Landon Lowe (1B/P).

Pearl River Central opens its 2025 campaign on February 11th against Gulfport, looking to build on last year’s success and compete for a championship.
