The 2025 Mississippi high school baseball season is quickly approaching and, as usual, excitement is abound throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Mississippi.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons at Pearl’s Trustmark Park, in the State Tournament finals at the end of May, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Mississippi. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 25 rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action.

2025 OUTLOOK

+ Pine Grove enters the 2025 season with championship aspirations after last year’s impressive 30-14 campaign, which ended as the 1A State runner-up to Taylorsville. With five positional starters and two pitchers returning, Head Coach Matt King is counting on his battle-tested Panthers to make another deep playoff push.

Leading the charge is senior Brittan Fryar (SS), who put up dominant offensive numbers in 2024, hitting .412 with seven home runs and 42 RBIs. Fellow senior Coy Childs (OF/RHP) and sophomore Talen Wilkerson (3B/RHP) add to the firepower, contributing 27 and 23 RBIs, respectively. On the mound, Childs will be the Panthers' ace after leading the team with a 6-4 record, 3.14 ERA, and 101 strikeouts last season.

Additional key contributors include juniors Weston Michael (C/UT) and Ayden Jones (UT/RHP), as well as Trevor Shinall (1B/DH), all of whom are expected to step up and play critical roles.

Pine Grove will open its season on February 13th against Belmont, looking to build on last season’s success and take the next step toward a state title.
