Mississippi HS Team Preview: Presbyterian Christian Bobcats

The 2025 Mississippi high school baseball season is quickly approaching and, as usual, excitement is abound throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Mississippi.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons at Pearl’s Trustmark Park, in the State Tournament finals at the end of May, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Mississippi. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 25 rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action.

2025 OUTLOOK

+ Presbyterian Christian enters the 2025 season with a strong foundation, returning six positional starters and eight pitchers from last year’s team that finished 23-11 as the MAIS 6A State Runner-Up to Jackson Prep. With the entire pitching staff back, Head Coach Jarrett Hoffpauir has a key ingredient for another deep postseason run.

Leading the way for the Bobcats are senior JT Smith (LHP/OF) and a talented junior class featuring Bankston Walters (RHP/1B, Southern Miss recruit, former Future Gamer), Tyner Flynt (LHP/OF, Troy recruit, former Future Gamer), Jet Henderson (RHP/OF), and Aaron Alston (RHP/INF/OF). Sophomore catcher Kade Welford also returns as a key piece behind the plate.

Offensively, Walters (.364, 3 HR, 33 RBI), Flynt (.333, 27 runs, 15 RBI), and Henderson (.312, 22 runs, 13 RBI) played pivotal roles in 2024 and will look to replicate their success. On the mound, Walters (9-0, 1.80 ERA, 79 strikeouts), Flynt (6-2, 50 K’s), and Smith (4-1, 35 K’s) provide a dominant trio for the Bobcats' rotation.

Several underclassmen are also expected to contribute, including sophomores Brennon Thoms (UT), Reed Bridges (3B/RHP/UT), and Seth Hataway (RHP/UT).

Presbyterian Christian opens its season on February 11th against Simpson Academy.
