Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Mississippi.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons at Pearl’s Trustmark Park, in the State Tournament finals at the end of May, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Mississippi. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 25 rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week and updating the Power 25 rankings.

2025 OUTLOOK

+ South Jones enters the 2025 season with high expectations, bringing back six positional starters and five pitchers from last year’s squad that posted a strong 24-8 record before falling in the fourth round of the 5A State Playoffs. Head Coach Mason Strickland will rely on the team’s overall experience, particularly in pitching and defense, as the Braves look to make another deep postseason run.

Leading the charge is senior Dylan Causey, a Southern Miss recruit who will be a key two-way contributor. The Braves’ pitching staff is shaping up to be a major strength, with left-handers Micah Coutta (Jones College commit) and Conner Moore (Meridian CC commit) providing reliable starting and relief options. Cambridge McDaniel, another Meridian CC recruit, will add depth both on the mound and at first base, while outfielder Bryson Bey (Copiah-Lincoln CC commit) brings veteran leadership to the lineup. With a combination of dominant starters and dependable bullpen arms, South Jones has the tools to control games from the mound.

Beyond their top returners, the Braves will rely on seniors Cayden Kinmon and Russ Thompson to solidify the infield, while catcher Greysen Sumrall provides stability behind the plate. Junior pitchers Logan Langley and Walker Johnson, along with infielder Eyan Butler, will also play important roles throughout the season. The program’s depth is further strengthened by a promising group of underclassmen, including sophomore Braxtyn Jensen, freshmen Brycen Pittman and Maddox Strickland, and eighth-grader Beckett Johnson, all of whom are expected to contribute at multiple positions.

South Jones opens the season on February 11th against Enterprise, aiming to build on last year’s success and make a push for a 5A championship. With a talented and experienced roster, the Braves have the pieces in place to be a serious contender once again.
