Prep Baseball Mississippi Staff

The 2025 Mississippi high school baseball season is quickly approaching and, as usual, excitement is abound throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Mississippi.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons at Pearl’s Trustmark Park, in the State Tournament finals at the end of May, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Mississippi. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews, eventually releasing our Preseason Power 25 rankings that’ll carry us into the opening week of action.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our Players of the Week and updating the Power 25 rankings.

2025 OUTLOOK

+ Sumrall enters the 2025 season as the team to beat in 4A, returning a loaded roster from last year’s dominant 34-5 squad that captured the state championship at Trustmark Park. With seven positional starters and six pitchers back, Head Coach Andy Davis is confident that the Bobcats’ combination of pitching depth, defensive prowess, and team speed will be the keys to another title run.

Leading the charge is a talented senior group, including Landon Hawkins (UT/RHP, Pearl River CC signee), Leo Odom (RHP/CI, Ole Miss signee and Future Gamer), Jack Miller (1B/RHP, Itawamba CC recruit), and Cadyn Williamson (OF/LHP). Junior Braelyn Harrison (OF) and sophomore Drew Davis (SS/RHP) are also poised to play critical roles.

The Bobcats return plenty of offensive firepower, with Hawkins leading the way after driving in 45 runs and hitting four home runs last season. Odom (33 RBIs, 4 HR), Davis (30 RBIs, 4 HR), and Miller (27 RBIs, 3 HR) round out a dangerous lineup. On the mound, Odom (9-0, 2.68 ERA) and Davis (8-3, 1.92 ERA) were dominant in 2024, both surpassing the 60-inning mark. They will be joined by Miller, Williamson, and others to form a deep and reliable pitching staff.

Additional contributors include seniors Brayden Smith (OF/RHP), Hayden Brown (OF), Caden Cochran (C), and Turk Hession (C), juniors Tucker Barrett (3B/RHP) and Braylen Graham (1B/RHP), and a strong sophomore class featuring Rowan Atkinson (OF/LHP), Maddox McDaniel (RHP), Lou Odom (3B/RHP), and Carson Speed (OF).

Sumrall opens its season on February 11th against Petal, determined to defend its crown and make another trip to Pearl.
