#24 Weddington Powers Past Piedmont in 8-3 Victory
Weddington’s offense came alive in a well-rounded 8-3 win over Piedmont on Tuesday night in Monroe, NC. Timely hitting and a strong performance on the mound secured the road victory for the Warriors.
Offensive Firepower Leads the Way
Weddington broke a 1-1 tie in the fourth inning, plating two runs to take control of the game. James Yanz led the offense, going 3-for-4 with a triple, an RBI, and two runs scored. Max Luzarraga also had a standout night, collecting three hits, including a double, while driving in a run.
Morgan Jones and Ryan Hamer each contributed multi-hit performances, adding key insurance runs in the later innings to put the game out of reach.
Dominant Pitching Performance
On the mound, Luzarraga set the tone early, striking out eight batters over three innings while allowing just one run on no hits. Nick Russo and Jake Ciampi combined to finish the game, limiting Piedmont to just three total hits on the night.
Despite a solid effort from Peyton Archer on the mound, Piedmont struggled to generate consistent offense. Josh Lacroix reached base three times and scored twice, while Ethan Harvey added an RBI.

At the plate, presented good pop with a double to left-center field early in the game on FB. Stayed in legs well and trusted hands throughout the game.

Smooth actions that were controlled. Ability to pitch backwards early, showed command with steady mix early in the game. Curveball presented some late/sharp action early also. Fastball ramped up to 80, holding 77-79. Breaking ball at 68-69. Flashed a change-up at 74.

Athlete to follow. Bat speed present. Aggressive demeanor and approach from the right side. Early waggle in the bat head steady’s as he gets to his load. Flat barrel position at launch. Two hits on the night.
Drake Covington, LHP/OF, Piedmont, 2027
Young frame. Think with maturation still to come. Dual sport athlete at Piedmont. Nice single through the right side of the field turning on upper 80's FB. On the mound, attacked the zone with solid feel for his fastball. Fade and sink to a fastball that ranged 72-73, peaking at 74. Athletic, loose actions, young player to keep an eye on.

Good approach at the plate. Sits in base nicely and trust his hands. Quick hands. Nice line drive barrel through left side on upper 80's FB. Good bat to follow. Between inning pop times of 2.20 - 2.30.
