2019 High School Preseason All-Uncommitted Team

Brandon Hall
North Carolina Director of Scouting

As we enter the 2019 high school baseball season fans, coaches, and players are optimistic about the year to come.  For the senior class, they are beginning to finalize their plans for next year.  While over 350 players in North Carolina have committed to play college baseball in the 2019-2020 season, there are still some very good players working through their decision process.

As part of our 2019 HS Season Preview, we have put together several “All-Accolades” teams.  Today we release our first team, the 2019 Preseason All-Uncommitted Team.  In order to be eligible for this roster, players need to be in the senior class and uncommitted at the time of publishing.  This team was selected by the work of the PBR staff in North Carolina with input from high school coaches across the state.

Most of these players are receiving some interest and several may be toward the end of their decision process.  While uncommitted in a recruiting world that seems to be moving very quickly, the Preseason All-Uncommitted Team has talent and depth.  This club could and would match up with a lot of the more talented rosters that could be assembled in North Carolina.

Pitchers

The pitching staff was put together with 7 arms available.  Each pitcher as present stuff and a potentially high ceiling.  Each of these arms will be relied upon during the spring to help their club win, and there will be times where these arms can dominate an opponent.  Three of the arms have been committed during their high school career, but as we enter the 2019 season, they have their recruiting process open.  Below are the 8 arms that are apart of the 2019 Preseason All-Uncommitted Team

Brett Banks, RHP, Garner HS

Justin Poris, RHP, Mooresville HS

Reid Dittner, RHP, Apex Friendship HS

Penn Sealey, RHP, Broughton HS

Jacob Carter, RHP, Crest HS

Nolan DeVos, RHP, Hickory Ridge HS

Tristan Millsaps, RHP, Alexander Central HS

Catchers

Three catchers were added to the 2019 Preseason All-Uncommitted Team.  Each of these catchers has athleticism and the chance to help a program early in their career at the next level.  Each also has the ability to stay in the lineup on nights they are not catching as their versatility could allow them to flip to another position when needed.

Clayton Canale, C, South Caldwell HS

Marshall Raper, C, JM Robinson HS

Lane Rhodes, C, Fuquay-Varina HS

Middle Infielders

For a team to be strong, there must be athleticism and consistency up the middle of the field.  The 2019 Preseason All-Uncommitted Team has this with four middle infielders.  This is a unique blend of players that can play defense at a high level and still offer themselves as a weapon on the offensive end.

Aly Dawood, SS, Cuthbertson HS

Tyler White, SS, Hopewell HS

Will Hood, 2B, Pro5 Academy

Malik Dixon, 2B, North Lenoir HS

Corner Infielders

For the corner infielders, the 2019 Preseason All-Uncommitted team remains athletic, but it consists of three players that could provide thump in the order.  Two of the corner infielders may play in the middle of the field this spring, but will probably move to a corner as they select their next stop.

Steven Gonzalez, 3B, Marvin Ridge HS

Jermie Green, 3B, South Iredell HS

Seth Sigmon, 1B, Alexander Central HS

Jared Emory, 3B, Cherryville HS

Outfielders

The outfield group consists of four player that blend speed and strength.  This group should track down a lot of the balls put in play and will be able to create some run scoring opportunities of their own.

Grayson Bailey, OF, Pro5Academy

RJ Rhem, OF, Myers Park HS

Tyler Tachman, OF, Chapel Hill HS

Evan Harding, OF, Clayton HS

Utlity

Three players make the club to add depth and competition on the mound and in the field.  Each of these players possesses athleticism in the box, with some feel for the barrel, as well as multiple weapons on the mound that lengthens an already deep pitching staff.

Zack Michael, OF/LHP, Apex HS

Dominick D’Ercole, 3B/RHP, Middle Creek HS

Matthew Upchurch, LHP/OF, Lincoln Charter HS
