Throughout the course of the 2019 spring season Prep Baseball Report worked to continue to be the No. 1 source for high school baseball coverage across North Carolina, and the country.  In North Carolina alone, PBR scouts saw over 250 different high school teams play and over 200 high school games, including state champions crowned in 6 different classifications.

With the “boots on the ground” philosophy, PBR also worked behind the scenes building a nightly scoreboard, updating fans on scores from across the state.  The nightly PBR Roundup featured up to 60 games per night with game notes, highlights, and player stats. 

Each week, PBR associates poured through box scores, talked to coaches across the state, and took their game notes to select a PBR Player of the Week.   All of this work also led to the PBR Power 25, a top 25 ranking of teams across the state, regardless of the club’s classification.

Prep Baseball Report is excited to expand on our current coverage, and the PBR State and National Player of the Year awards, by announcing the inaugural First Team All-PBR. Last year, Prep Baseball Report formalized the selection process for the individual PBR State Player of the Year award and announced the first PBR Player of the Year award.  Last week the First Team All-PBR was announced.  The National All-PBR team was comprised of PBR Player of the Year, Brett Baty (3B, Lake Travis HS, TX) and North Carolina PBR Player of the Year, Blake Walston (LHP, New Hanover HS) as well as 11 other athletes with exceptional years. 

The North Carolina First Team All-PBR consists of 13 athletes from across the state who rose above the competition and stood out at their respective positions. These athletes made a strong impression on the Prep Baseball Report staff during the spring season both offensively and defensively on the baseball diamond. The inaugural First Team All-PBR consists of one catcher, a first baseman, three infielders, three outfielders, four pitchers and one utility player. The list of athletes were nominated by the Prep Baseball Report staff, scouts, and high school coaches across North Carolina.  

The athletes below have earned their spot on the First Team All-PBR roster.

Catcher:

Cooper Ingle, C, AC Reynolds HS, 2020
Ingle was an offensive force, leading AC Reynolds at the plate.  He hit .571 with 12 doubles, 3 triples, 4 home runs and 15 RBIs.  Ingle scored 26 runs and only struckout 5 times throughout the entire 2019 schedule.  An elite defender, Ingle was strong behind the plate as well, discouraging opponents from running with a strong and accurate arm.  Ingle was named Conference Player of the Year and named to the 3A All-State team by the North Carolina Baseball Coaches Association (NCBCA)

First Base: 

Cameron Clonch, 1B, Mooresville HS, 2020
A log jam of heavy hitters filled the role of 1B this spring.  Clonch separated himself with productive post-season while facing 7 different arms committed to D1 schools, helping Mooresville to the 4A State Title.  For the year, Clonch hit .326 with 6 doubles, 3 triples and 5 home runs, producing 28 RBIs and scoring 23 runs.  He compiled an on base percentage of .432.  While the season in totality was good, it was the post-season that was the separator.  Clonch accounted for 14 runs, driving in 10 in the post-season.  Clonch was named to the IMeck 4A All-Conference Team.

 

Infield: 

Joey Berini, SS, Orange HS, 2020
Berini was impressive both offensively and defensively throughout 2019, stabilizing the middle of the field for Orange.  A switch-hitter, Berini hit .466 with 12 doubles, 4 triples, and 3 home runs.  An on base percentage of.541 was helped by drawing 19 walks on the year.  Berini was named Conference Player of the Year as well as 3A All-State by the NCBCA.

 

Infield:

Kahlil Watson, SS, Wake Forest HS, 2021
Watson filled up the stat sheet playing at a high level both offensively and defensively throughout the year.  He hit .578 with 12 doubles, 6 triples, and 6 home runs, adding 23 RBIs.  When on base, Watson was a constant threat, stealing 26 bases.  For his efforts, Watson was named Conference Player of the Year and to the 4A NCBCA All-State Team.

Infield: 

Corbin Lanowitz, SS, Walkertown HS, 2020
A constant threat in the Walkertown lineup, Lanowitz became a feared hitter in 2019.  He hit .551 with an on base percentage of .641.  On the year, Lanowitz accounted for 21 doubles, 2 triples and 2 home runs, scoring an impressive 36 runs, while driving in 30.  He added 27 stolen bases in 2019 as well.  Lanowitz was named Conference Player of the Year and to the NCBCA 2A All-State Team.

Outfield: 

Andre White, Jr., OF, Vance HS, 2019
New to North Carolina in 2019, White quickly made a name for himself in the IMECK 4A.  While leading Vance’s offense, White broke the North Carolina batting average record for a year, hitting .684 with 4 home runs and 40 RBIs.  His on base percentage landed at .733 while slugging .921.  Leading a team that lacked some depth, the coaches and scouts in the area that ran across White all raved about barrel ability and strength.  White was named to the 4A NCBCA All-State Team.

 

Outfield:

Cam Jackson, OF, DH Conley HS, 2019
A big year from the senior outfielder helped to lead DH Conley to the East Region Finals in the 3A State Playoffs.  Jackson was named the 3A Player of the Year by the NCBCA, while making the 3A NCBCA All-State Team.  He hit .485 with 11 doubles and 9 home runs, driving in 37.  Jackson had an on base percentage of .576 and slugged .876 while going 13-13 in stolen base attempts.

Outfield:

Lawson Harrill, OF, Crest HS, 2019
Harrill was the offensive catalyst for a team that finished 26-1 on the season, hitting .568 with 10 doubles, 3 triples, 7 home runs, and 40 RBIs.  An on base percentage of .683 led to 43 total runs scored.  Harrill also swiped 22 bases on the year.  For his efforts, Harrill was named Conference Player of the Year and to the 2A NCBCA All-State Team.

Pitcher: 

Blake Walston, LHP, New Hanover HS, 2019
A big year on the bump culminated in a state championship for Walston and his New Hanover teammates.  Walston went 13-0, leading the state in wins.  In 75.1 innings, he surrendered 31 hits and 23 walks, while punching 137 hitters.  While throwing 3 shutouts and 2 no-hitters, Walston had an ERA of 0.46.  Amid a slew of awards, Walston was named Conference Pitcher of the Year and to the 3A NCBCA All-State team.  He also garnered the PBR Player of the Year in North Carolina.

Pitcher:

Matt Willadsen, RHP, Holly Springs HS, 2019
Willadsen helped to lead the Hawks to the East Region Finals, going 9-0 with a 0.35 ERA in 60.1 innings pitched.  Dominant for most of the year, Willadsen threw 3 no-hitters in 2019 and struckout 102 hitters, while only allowing 11 walks.  Willadsen was named Conference Player of the Year and a 4A All-State player by the NCBCA.

Pitcher: 

Hunter Hall, RHP, Washington HS, 2019
Hall helped to lead the Pam Pack to the East Region Finals in the 2A State Playoffs with ha 10-1 record, while also recording 3 saves.  In 63.1 innings pitched, hitters hit only .159 against him, striking out 111 times and drawing 38 walks.  For his efforts, Hall was named the 2A Player of the Year by the NCBCA.  He also garnered All Conference, Conference Player of the Year and Conference Pitcher of the Year.

Pitcher:

CJ Mayhue, LHP, Crest HS, 2019
Crest went undefeated in the regular season before being upset in the state playoffs and concluding the season at 26-1.  Mayhue’s year on the mound helped to lead the Chargers to the big year.  Mayhue went 9-1, striking out 117 hitters in 60 innings, allowing only 11 walks.  The ERA finished at 1.05.  Mayhue threw 4 complete games, 2 no-hitters, and 1 perfect game.  Mayhue was named to his All-Conference team and named the Conference Pitcher of the Year.

Utility:

Landon Ginn, INF/OF/RHP, Corinth Holders HS, 2020
Corinth Holders made a run to the 4A State Championship series and Ginn’s 2019 provided a constant spark on the mound and in the box.  The right hander earned 8 wins, without a loss, in 47.2 innings pitched, striking out 67.  Offensively, Ginn hit .517 with 12 doubles, 1 triple, and 5 home runs.  He drove in 35 runs and scored 32 while swiping 19 bags when on base.  Ginn was named the 4A Player of the Year by the NCBCA.  He earned All-Conference and Conference Pitcher of the Year, as well as making the 4A NCBCA All-State team.

The Prep Baseball Report boots-on-the-ground staff spends countless hours on the road each and every year to help promote athletes and high school baseball programs throughout the state of North Carolina and country.
