2019 Preseason All-State Roster Release

Brandon Hall
North Carolina Director of Scouting

On January 27th, 100 of the top players from across North Carolina will descend on Pineville, NC and the On Deck Baseball Academy facility to take part in the 3rd annual PBR North Carolina Preseason All-State event.  This year’s event becomes the 3rd straight to sellout, doing so in record time, with the 100th registrant taking his slot during the first week of January.

At the event, pitchers will throw a controlled bullpen with catchers receiving.  Position players will go through a modified pro-style workout, showcasing their skills on defense and during several rounds of batting practice.   The facility at On Deck affords the players an opportunity to be outside for some of their defensive work if the weather cooperates.  Should the weather be inclement, the facility can hold the entire pro-style workout.

As the first invite-only event of 2019, the staff at PBR will be able to update each player’s PBR Profile with an updated evaluation and video, while posting new statistics, allowing college coaches and pro scouts to get a feel for how players are progressing as they get ready for their spring season.  The PBR staff will also be looking to fill roster slots for premier summer events like the PBR Future Games, the Southern Academic Games, and the Top Prospect Games.  All players in attendance will have their player grade updated in the background notes for PBR scouts.  These player grades eventually lead to updated rankings in each class for North Carolina as well as PBR’s Overall Rankings.

As PBR’s staff is getting ready for the Preseason All-State, invites are sent to all players in the PBR database that have received a player grade meeting a high criteria.  Players from across the state are also able to request an invitation from PBR, with PBR scouts following up on each request to determine if a player fits the event.  Along with selling out in record time, PBR had a record number of invited players accept their first invitation as well as a record number of players request invites to the event.

The 2019 Roster

Beginning next week, PBR will be spotlighting players that are scheduled to attend the Preseason All-State.  Today, the full roster for the event is being released and can be seen HERE.  The roster contains a good mix of players from all four high school classes.  While this can be a big event for uncommitted players, there are several committed players taking advantage of their invite to compete alongside some of the best players in the state, with the hopes of improving their ranking and potentially their draft stock for the coming years.
