Carson  4 Northwest Cabarrus  5

Game 2 of a conference series saw another good pitching matchup as Northwest Cabarrus hosted Carson on Friday night.  Northwest plated 3 runs late in the game to secure the 5-4 win, and series split.

The two starters set the tone early.  Junior Dalton Hazlett took the bump for Northwest with Sophomore Hayden Simmerson working to match him for Carson.  Hazlett worked 4 solid innings giving up 3 runs, all earned while striking out 5.  Simmerson worked into the 6th, dominant at times before surrendering 3 runs in the 6th, taking the loss.  Simmerson did strikeout 10, only walking 1.

The Trojans were down 3-2 entering the bottom of the 6th.  A leadoff walk from Trenton Grigley was followed by line drive single into left from Jacob Allen.  Kade Platt laid down a nice sacrifice bunt, between the mound and 3B.  Simmerson worked to make the play at 1B, but threw it down the line, scoring Grigley and Allen.  Platt landed on 3B with 0 outs.  Terry Kaler singled to center to plate the insurance run, moving the score to 5-3.

Carson threatened in the 7th vs. Trojan reliever, Tanner Kaler.  A 1 out double from Cameron Burleyson plated Aaron Coe.  Kaler then punched the final two hitters to earn the win.

The win moved Northwest Cabarrus to 7-2 on the year, 2-2 in the South Piedmont 3A.  They are scheduled to play Concord in a 2 game series this week.  Carson goes to 6-3, 3-1, and will play East Rowan in a 2 game set beginning Tuesday.
