Brandon Hall
Mid-Atlantic Executive Director

The Carolinas Top Underclass Games took place on August 11th at UNC Charlotte at Robert and Mariam Hayes Stadium.  Top prospects from South Carolina and North Carolina in the classes of 2023 - 2025 participated in one of the most popular events each year.

The event began with a pro-style workout for all the position players that included the 60 yard dash, BP with TrackMan ball flight analysis and Blast Motion swing analysis, and a defensive evaluation. Following the showcase, players were split into their teams and played 2 controlled games.

Below we will look at the statistical breakdown for the event.

Quick Hitters - Pitchers

Wesley Driscoll (RHP, Wakefield HS, 2023) – Large frame with broad shoulders and strength present at 6-foot-4, 200 pounds.  Low-3/4 to sidearm slot that looked to create issues for Right handed hitters.  Arm strength is present.  Fastball up to 86 with heavy, hard at times, arm side run.  2:00 spin tilt out of the hand and an average of 17.4 inches of run from release.  Elevated and erratic at times, began to dial into the zone as the pitch count grew, creating soft contact and some bad swings.  Slider is still developing but there is some feel for the change-up at 72mph.

Camron Seagraves (RHP, Richmond County HS, 2024) – Slender 6-foot, 153 pounds with plenty of maturation ahead in the frame.  Broad shoulders.  Outing put him in contention for a spot at the 2022 PBR Future Games, repping Team Carolina.  Good rhythm over the rubber, easily repeating the delivery with a long arm swing to an over-the-top slot.  Fastball up to 86 with sink metrics, occasionally boaring hard into right handed hitters.  Flooded the down zone with strikes and misses.  Occasionally showed an ability to elevate.  Advanced breaking ball with late, hard bite at 76-78, spinning up to 2271rpm.  11/5 tilt created swing and miss in the zone and chase out of the zone.

Dylan Story (RHP, High Point Christian Acad, 2023) – Physical presence with defined strength in the lower half, standing 6-foot-3, 190 pounds.  Long arm swing to an over-the-top release.  Arm strength over arm speed, but with better than average arm speed.  Fastball up to 89 with a peak spin of 2321rpm.  Worked around the zone without command of any one spot.  Featured two breaking balls.  Slider is ahead of the curveball with late, darting length at 73-76 and spinning up to 2408rpm.

Dalen Boykin (RHP, Rolesville HS, 2024) – Broad shoulders and some strength present at 6-foot, 205 pounds.  Thick, powerful lower half.  Uses a short arm action getting to an over-the-top slot.  Effectively erratic, throwing enough strikes to keep hitters honest.  More feel for the glove side.  Fastball up to 84 with some run to the arm side.  1:00 spin tilt out of the hand.  Slight hump out of the hand with the curveball, but works with late 11/5 tilt at 67-71, spinning up to 2146rpm.

Parker Lakey (RHP, Hickory Ridge HS, 2025) – Advanced poise and feel for his age.  Athletic build at 6-foot, 185 pounds.  Pounded the zone out of the wind-up and stretch.  Worked backwards at times and showed an ability to attack older hitters with located fastballs.  Fastball ranged 80-84 with over 10in of horizontal run out of the hand.  Worked the down zone.  Breaking ball for strikes consistently at 66-67, spinning at 2043rpm with 10/4 action.

Trace Aufderhar (RHP, High Point Christian Acad, 2023) – Loose, thin, athletic build.  Listed at 6-foot-2, 180 pounds.  Frame has projection left.  Quick, whippy arm.  Advanced arm speed.  Good direction, working level.  Stretch only, repeated the delivery.  Fastball peaked at 87 with sink metrics and 1:45 spin tilt out of the hand.  Good feel for a change-up.  Solid arm speed and deception with the change-up working through the same tunnel as the fastball at 81-82.  Flashed a hard, sweeping breaking ball with early action and length through the zone at 73-75.

Garrett Arnold (RHP, Fuquay-Varina HS, 2024) – Broad shoulders at 6-foot, 180 pounds.  Coils through balance, uncoiling back to an on-line and square foot-strike.  Reaches out of the glove, slightly wrapped around the body, working back to a high-3/4 slot.  Solid arm speed.  Fastball peaked at 79, working to ride through the zone.  Around the zone with a fastball / curveball mix, the fastball did work up in the zone throughout the outing.  Breaking ball at 67-69.  10/4 tilt, sweeping out of the hand early.  Threw the breaking ball to both sides.

Chase Arrington (RHP, North Raleigh Christian, 2023) – Arm speed and aggression present at 5-foot-8, 165 pounds.  Long arm swing, plunging out of the glove to an over-the-top slot.  Some uphill leverage through balance, working to create downhill plane on the fastball.  Fastball peaked at 85 with 12:30 spin out of the hand.  Average ride through the zone.  Top to bottom breaking ball has depth and tilt at 68-72.  Allows the fastball to work up in the zone at times.  Big break through the zone, but showed some feel for landing it and expanding with the spin pitch.

Jack Brodeur (RHP, CE Jordan HS, 2025) – Large frame and broad shoulders, with solid athleticism present at 6-foot-3, 175 pounds.  Fastball up to 83 with an average spin of 2131rpm.  Solid ride, flashing over 15in of horizontal break with a 1:30 spin tilt out of the hand.  Worked to both sides of the plate, working the down zone.  Breaking ball is still developing, a little soft out of the hand at 66-70.  10/4 tilt created some issues for right handed hitters.  Occasionally around the pitch early, creating sweep through the zone.  Should become more consistent with his growth in the coming years.  High ceiling for the 2025 grad.

Jeffrey Dobson (RHP, Fuquay-Varina HS, 2023) – Athletic build at 5-foot-11, 160 pounds.  Long, loose, easy arm swing to a ¾ slot.  Above average arm speed.  Fastball peaked at 81 with heavy run.  2:00 spin tilt out of the hand with 16.9in of horizontal break.  Strike thrower.

Jacob Vanderhave (RHP, Charlotte Country Day, 2023) – Strong frame with broad shoulders and strength present at 6-foot, 175 pounds.  Long arm swing and exaggerated over-the-top slot, working to create downhill angle out of the hand.  Fastball up to 81 working to ride through the zone.  Consistent spin and tilt on the breaking ball ranging 64-66.  11/5 tilt.

Bobby Osburn (RHP, Fuquay-Varina HS, 2023) – Four pitch repertoire from a lower slot.  Athletic frame, thin, standing 6-foot, 165 pounds.  Average to above arm speed from a low-3/4 slot.  Better feel for the arm side.  Fastball up to 83 with sink metrics and a 1:15 spin tilt.  Still developing feel for his secondary stuff.  Slider is ahead of curveball at this time with sweeping action out of the hand.
