Chris Villaman: PBR Player of the Week FEB 25 - MAR 10, 2019

Brandon Hall
North Carolina Director of Scouting

Player of the Week nominations are submitted by High School coaches across North Carolina each week.  Along with the nominations, Prep Baseball Report is diving into box scores, talking to coaches and scouts, and attending as many games as possible.

The PBR Player of the Week for March 12, 2019 will go back over the past two weeks with the start of the season for most teams occurring in the middle of week 1.  Also, the rain has hampered the game schedule across the state.  Players from across North Carolina had big weeks as the season opened.  The rain may have slowed the schedule but the list of players that are off to quick starts is long.  You can see a full list of players off to a hot start in Diamond Notes, a collection of notes, stats, and highlights from the past week.

The PBR Player of the Week for February 25 – March 10, 2019 is Chris Villaman.  Villaman is a LHP/OF from Ledford HS and is committed to the Wolfpack of North Carolina.  Villaman’s hot start led Ledford to a 4-0 start and the No. 1 Ranking in the PBR/NCBCA Coaches Poll released on March 12th

Villaman appeared twice on the mound for the Panthers, tallying 9 innings, giving up 1 hit without issuing a walk.  In the 9 innings of work the lefty struckout 22 hitters.  In the box, Villaman produced some loud numbers as well.  In three games, he totaled 7 hits, hitting .700 with 5 runs scored and driving in 7 runners.  A slugging percentage of 1.200 for the week with a HR and 2 doubles.
