Cuthbertson finished off the conference sweep of Sun Valley with a Saturday afternoon victory on the road. Early miscues by the Spartans allowed the visitors to get ahead and never look back.
The Cavs were led by third baseman John Newton (2021, uncommitted) who went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs. Second baseman Jackson Melton (2020, uncommitted) also scored a pair of runs, and the team got good pitching from NC State commit Brandon Hudson (2021) and Campbell commit Cade Kuehler (2020).
Sun Valley's offense was charged by left fielder Ryan Onson (2020, uncommitted) who had a pair of hits and an RBI. Catcher Nate Nygaard (2020, uncommitted) also contributed with an RBI ground-rule double on a ball hit deep to center field. Spartans' starter Matthew Schepel (2021, uncommitted) struck out 3 and allowed 3 earned runs while working into the 5th inning.
