Norris’ Goes No-No for Green Hope

Liam Norris is a high end prospect, ranked No. 1 in the NC Class of 2020 and committed to UNC.  On Wednesday, at home, he added to his resume with his first high school no-hitter, blanking Northern Durham, in an 8-0 win.

Norris used 99 pitches in the complete game effort, throwing 69 strikes.  He induced 4 ground balls and struck out 14 hitters, while walking 2. The Northern hitters were consistently on their heels as Norris worked ahead of 19 of the 24 hitters faced.

Green Hope’s offense backed up the effort, scoring single runs in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th, before busting the game open with a 5 spot in the 6th.  The scoring started with Jordyn Adams working a 2 out walk and stealing 2B. He advanced to 3B on a wild pitch and with a 3-1 count on Johnathon Ankner, Adams swiped home.

The single run would have held as Norris was dominate on the day.  Northern only had three baserunners on the day, each in a different inning.  In the 6th, the leadoff hitter reached base for Northern on an error, advancing to 2B on the throw.  With two outs he advanced to 3B, but would be stranded there, ending the only real threat of the game for Northern.

Ardrey Kell Holds Off Late Charging Warriors

Ardrey Kell hosted local rival Weddington on a cold, windy day.  The Knights would jump out to a quick 4-0 lead after two and hang on for a 4-3 win.

In the first, leadoff hitter Cam Brantley would spark the Knights with a single and stolen base, scoring on an RBI single to right by Parker Ledford.  In the 2nd, with 2 outs and a runner on 1st, AK would use a HBP and walk to load the bases for Brantley who would single to center, scoring two. An error off a hard hit ball from Ledford would push the Knights 4 run across.

Weddington starter Cooper Mckeehan limited the damage after the 2nd, working four innings and keeping the score intact.  Jackson Herring worked the final two innings for the Warriors, keeping AK off the board.

Luke Carpenter made the lead stand on the mound.  The lefty worked a solid 6 innings, striking out 10 and limiting Weddington to 5 hits.  In the 7th, AK went to the bullpen where Weddington was able to make a run. Working a leadoff walk, followed by a strikeout, the next three Warrior hitters would reach base.  With 2 runs in, Harry Bernard hit a SAC Fly to center, scoring Ryan Huesing. An error put the tying run on 2B and the winning run on 1B before Woodson Alexander induced a ground ball to end the game.
