No. 1 Randleman Stiffled by Providence Grove

The No. 1 ranked team in the first PBR/NCBCA Coaches 2A Poll was silenced on Thursday night by two Providence Grove pitchers.  Conner Patterson worked 5.2 innings, allowing 1 run and striking out 11. Jordan Hodges closed the game, surrendering one run in route to a win.

Down one in the 6th, Patterson looked to help his cause reaching on an error.  Following two ground ball outs, Patterson stood on 3B with L Adams at the dish.  Adams delivered with a double to center field, tying the game. Drew Needham followed with a line drive single to center, giving Providence Grove its first lead, 2-1.  Two walks and an error lead to the third run of the inning and a cushion for the Providence Grove arms.

In the 7th, Randleman scored one on two singles and a fielder’s choice.  With two outs, Ramsey Petty singled moving the tying run to 2B, but Hodges induced a ground ball to end the game.

Randleman out hit Providence Grove 7-2, but also committed two key errors and issued 6 walks.  Randleman starting pitcher Trey Cooper struckout 12 over 5.2 innings of work.

Apex Friendship Slips Past Southern Lee

On Thursday afternoon, Apex Friendship used 5 hits and 2 runs to get by Southern Lee 2-1.  Ian Asken and Ty Peters combned to limit Southern to just 3 hits, while striking out 6.

In the bottom of the 2nd, down 1-0, Bryson Smith led off with home run to right field to tie the game.  The game would remain knotted until 5th where W Thistle led off with a single. A SAC bunt, followed by a fly ball would move Thistle to 3B, where Grayson Laspaluto’s double to center scored the game winning run.

Southern received a solid outing from Caleb Cross, working 5 innings and only surrendering the two runs.  Thomas Harrington threw the 6th, punching two, keeping Southern within strking distance.

Currituck Walks-off in the 7th with 3-2 win

Currituck county hosted Camden County on Thursday night and finished with a bang.  Tied at 2 in the bottom of the 7th, Liam Schuster tripled to center field to start the inning.  The next hitter, Holden Smith, singled to right, scoring Schuster and starting the celebration.

Currituck jumped to a 2-0 lead with single runs in the third and fourth.  In the top of the 7th, Camden would answer, scoring two to tie the game. A one out walk was followed by two singles, scoring one.  A first and third “jail break” would allow the tying run to score.

Currituck was led at the plate by Smith, collecting two hits, one a double, and 1 RBI.  On the bump Cole Bates worked 5 innings, striking out 7 and only allowing 4 hits in a no-decision.

Wake County Home School Scores Early

Wake County Home School scored 7 runs in the first inning to cruise to a 15 to 7 win over Ravenscroft. Nate Cleveland had 3 RBI on the day from the leadoff spot.  Caleb Fluno collected 3 hits, including a double, to drive in two and score two runs himself.

On the bump Luke Hahn started, getting the win, working 2 innings, only allowing one hit.  With the game in hand, WCHS turned to the bullpen to work the final 5 innings. In total, 5 pitchers collected 15 strike outs, but did walk 7 hitters.

Ravenscroft was led offensively by Justin Zachary, 2-4, out of the leadoff spot.  Abbot Timmons also collected 2 hits in the loss.
