Gavin Mortenson: PBR Player of the Week - April 1 - 7

Brandon Hall
North Carolina Director of Scouting

Player of the Week nominations are submitted by High School coaches across North Carolina each week.  Along with the nominations, Prep Baseball Report is diving into box scores, talking to coaches and scouts, and attending as many games as possible.

PBR's staff sifts through the information sent in and seen by our scouts to determine the PBR Player of the Week every Tuesday.  You can see a full list of players off to a hot start in Diamond Notes, a collection of notes, stats, and highlights from the past week, published every Wednesday during the season.

The PBR Player of the Week for April 1 – 7, 2018 is Northwest Guilford HS SS/RHP Gavin Mortenson (2020).  Northwest Guilford went 2-1 in the prestigious USA Baseball National High School Invitational (NHSI), featuring 16 of the top high school teams from across the country.  Mortenson keyed the Viking attack from the leadoff spot in their three games, hitting .500 while playing flawlessly on defense.  To cap the week off, Mortenson was the game 3 starter on the mound, throwing a complete game in the win over La Mirada HS, out of California.  USA Baseball announced the 2019 NHSI All-Tournament team at the conclusion of the event on Saturday where Mortenson was one of eleven players to be honored.

For all of his work at the NHSI and helping Northwest Guilford to the 2-1 mark, Gavin Mortenson is the PBR Player of the Week for April 1 – 7, 2019.
