Impact Spotlight: 3 Potential Dual Players in 2019 Class

The Impact Spotlight continues to profile uncommitted players from across North Carolina that may have the ability to impact a roster at the college level, when their times comes.  Each player's profile includes a full evaluation, statistics, and video from PBR staff.  PBR continues to be the most trusted scouting source in the country for college coaches and pro scouts with the ability to run events and see high school games.  The "boots on the ground" philosophy keeps PBR dialed into the atmosphere of high school baseball across the state.

College rosters are limited to 35 players, 27 of which can receive baseball aid, at the Division 1 level.  It is work to balance the roster, creating depth and balance.  While being a "dual player" with the ability to pitch and hit, is very difficult at the next level, these players provide an ability to lengthen a roster, creating depth.  Today we take a look at three players in the 2019 class that could provide that option to their future coaching staffs. 

Dominick D'Ercole (3B/RHP, Middle Creek HS) stands 6-foot, 165 pounds with strength in his build.  Offensively, the right handed hitter finds the barrel consistently with an exit velocity peaking at 89 mph.  On the bump, the righty fills the strike zone up with three pitches.  The fastball has touched 85 already.

Alex Sniffen (3B/RHP, New Hanover HS) is a physically imposing player in the box and on the bump.  A right handed hitter, the pure power in the swing is some of the best in the 2019 class, putting on a display during BP.  The exit velocity peaked at 95 at the Preseason All-State event in late January.  On the mound, the fastball has been up to 84.  More strength than arm speed, the ball does seem to jump on hitters.

While D'Ercole and Sniffen may profile as position first at this time, Matthew Upchurch (LHP/OF, Lincoln Charter School) is a pitcher first and an athlete in the box.  The left-hander has some movement in his delivery, but has a good feel for the strike zone.  The fastball has touched 84 from the mound with more on the way.  From the outfield, the arm has peaked at 89 out of the hand.  A left handed hitter, there is athleticism in the box with looseness in the swing.
