Last Chance Summer ID: TrackMan Leaders

Brandon Hall
Mid-Atlantic Scouting Director

On Saturday August 6th PBR of NC was at Buck Hardee Field at Legion Stadium in Wilmington, NC hosting the Last Chance Summer ID and a Scout Day with Team Beast NC. Players in attendance ranged from the 2023-2026 grad classes.

The day began with catchers going through a defensive evaluation followed by pitchers throwing a controlled bullpen with Trackman collecting ball flight data. After the bullpens, position players ran a laser timed 60 using Swift Technology then taking BP on the field with Trackman gathering ball flight information. The day concluded with outfielders and infielders going through a defensive evaluation.

Below we begin our breakdown of the players in attendance. Click Here to see the full roster and stats

TrackMan Leaders: Last Chance Summer ID

PEAK EXIT VELOCITY

TrackMan is able to track every ball hit into fair territory, throughout the BP sessions.  Below are the exit velocities produced by individual players.

Rank Name State School Class Pos Exit Velocity (max)
1 Oakley Rempel NC New Hanover 2024 OF 98.9 mph
2 Samuel Schwamb SC Catawba Ridge 2025 C 94.7 mph
3 Macon Leppert SC Blythewood 2025 C 92.8 mph

AVERAGE EXIT VELOCITY

The average exit velocity measures a players ability to consistently produce hard contact.  The average was taken based on every ball tracked by TrackMan throughout the player's BP session.

Rank Name State School Class Pos Exit Velocity (avg)
1 Oakley Rempel NC New Hanover 2024 OF 87.7 mph
2 Macon Leppert SC Blythewood 2025 C 82.5 mph
3 Banks Knight SC Summerville High 2025 OF 79.7 mph

DISTANCE OFF THE BAT

TrackMan is able to measure and track the ball while in the air.  For every fair ball put in play it will display the distance the hit traveled.

Peak Distance - Best of the Hitter’s Session

Rank Name State School Class Pos Distance (max)
1 Oakley Rempel NC New Hanover 2024 OF 353 ft
2 Matthew Mallare NC Green Hope 2024 C 325 ft
3 Samuel Schwamb SC Catawba Ridge 2025 C 325 ft

Average Distance - Average of each ball tracked in the Session

Rank Name State School Class Pos Distance (avg)
1 Oakley Rempel NC New Hanover 2024 OF 244 ft
2 William Meredith SC Emerald High 2025 LHP 193 ft
3 Macon Leppert SC Blythewood 2025 C 188 ft

HARD HIT PERCENTAGE

TrackMan is able to track and follow exit velocities of each hitter.  Based on the individual's top exit velocity, TrackMan is able to give us a percentage of hard hit balls.  This percentage is based off of each individual hitter's top exit velocity.

Rank Name State School Class Pos Hard Hit %
1 Oakley Rempel NC New Hanover 2024 OF 40 %
2 Macon Leppert SC Blythewood 2025 C 16 %
3 Samuel Schwamb SC Catawba Ridge 2025 C 15 %

LAUNCH ANGLE PERCENTAGE

Based on the ball flight, TrackMan is able to identify each hit as a ground ball, line drive, or fly ball.  While there are many factors as to why a hitter may approach each pitch in a certain way, the overall groupings of BP can give some insight to each hitter's approach.

Line Drive %

Rank Name State School Class Pos Line Drive %
1 Macon Leppert SC Blythewood 2025 C 50 %
^ Matthew Mallare NC Green Hope 2024 C 50 %
2 Samuel Schwamb SC Catawba Ridge 2025 C 46 %
^ Mason Meyer NC Jacksonville 2024 2B 46 %
^ Noah Fluharty NC West Brunswick 2024 SS 46 %

FASTBALL STATS

Peak Velocity

Rank Name State School Class Pos Velocity (max)
1 Oakley Rempel NC New Hanover 2024 OF 84.4 mph
2 Christian Davis NC Topsail 2023 RHP 82.5 mph
3 Shep Fowler NC Roanoke Rapids 2024 SS 79.7 mph

Average Effective Velocity

Effective velocity is taking into account the velocity of each pitch, its release distance, the pitches time to the plate / hitting area, and the pitches movement.  With all of this information, Effective Velocity is allowing coaches and scouts to more accurately compare how a pitch is affecting a hitter.

Rank Name State School Class Pos Eff Velocity (avg)
1 Christian Davis NC Topsail 2023 RHP 80.5 mph
2 Oakley Rempel NC New Hanover 2024 OF 80.3 mph
3 Nicholas Quinones NC Swansboro 2025 3B 75.6 mph

2 Sebastian Rodriguez NC Grimsley 2025 SS 1936 rpm
3 Christian Davis NC Topsail 2023 RHP 1892 rpm

Average Induced Vertical Movement

Induced vertical movement tracks how the ball rides through the zone, or sinks through the zone.  For the purpose of this board we are tracking which fastballs showed the most ride, typically leading to more swing and miss opportunities

Rank Name State School Class Pos IVB (avg)
1 Shep Fowler NC Roanoke Rapids 2024 SS 20.7 in
2 William Meredith SC Emerald High 2025 LHP 19.7 in
3 Nicholas Quinones NC Swansboro 2025 3B 18.2 in

Average Horizontal Movement

Horizontal movement is often referred to as run.  This measurement does not distinguish between early and late movement, just the overall amount the ball tracks to the arm side out of the hand.

Rank Name State School Class Pos HM (avg)
1 Ayden Broughton NC Pamlico County 2026 3B -10.8
2 Shep Fowler NC Roanoke Rapids 2024 SS -7.8
3 Oakley Rempel NC New Hanover 2024 OF -7.4

Peak Spin Score

The Spin Score is a measurement linking velocity and spin.  It is calculated by dividing the spin rate by the velocity of each pitch.
