Austin Primm is an imposing athlete, standing 6-foot-5, 235 pounds.  As one of the first players from North Carolina to take part in the PBR Future Games, Primm jumped on the scene last summer with a big time performance in Indianapolis.  He has maintained that momentum and recently made his college decision to join coach Kermit Smith at Appalachian State.

Primm has attended several PBR events, including the Future Games and the Pre-season All State event in January.  PBR takes a quick look at the development of Primm and a glimpse to see the talent heading to Boone.

Scouting Report

05.21.17
Strong, monstrous build at 6-foot-5, 235 pounds.  Good athleticism and feel.  Quickness has continued to improve as he ran a 7.40 sixty with acceleration off the line.  Working from a high-¾ slot and ease throughout the delivery, the fastball ranged 84-86 with arm side run and a quick arm.  Showed feel for locating to both sides.  Straight change-up touched 76 with fastball look-alike tendencies and arm side run.  Should act as his second pitch based on the bullpen.  Breaking ball lacked action sitting 75-77.  Long, loose arm swing with easy repeatable mechanics.  Smooth rhythm and level shoulders, landed on-line.

01.28.17
Physically imposing at 6-foot-5, 235 pounds with room to continue to improve.  Flashes athleticism and body awareness.  Arm works with a long swing, loose, to a high-3/4 slot showing above average arm speed.  Consciously dialed down with the early season bullpen fastball reached 84, without any effort, producing late run.  Slider has a high ceiling, sitting 71-73 with late tilt.  Change sat 76-79 in the strike zone.  Easy delivery and repeats producing a lot of strikes from all three pitches.

Light on his feet with a feel for the barrel.  Balanced setup with a smooth load and short stride.  Back side explodes creating a fast bat with a level path wanting extension.  Tends to stay gap-to-gap.  Works easy.  Repeat.  Consistent barrel throughout every round.  Exit velocity topped at 93.  At 1B, works clean and with  ease.  Catches the ball regularly with soft hands.  Feet work with ease on all throws.  Arm is repeat-able at a high-3/4 slot, showing carry and accuracy.

08.05.16:

Primm has a big 6-5 frame with a strong lower half. Throws from a three-quarters arm slot with a smooth drop and drive delivery. Loose, quick arm action that generates velocity with easier effort. Shoulders are slightly uphill and closed, in line stride to a square landing with an athletic finish. Fastball sat 86-87 in the windup, touching 89. Fell to 84-85 in the stretch. Late run and good command. 10/4 slider with sharp, late break and good armspeed, running 72-77...has an imposing frame. Hits from an athletic set up at the plate. Longer swing path with some bat speed and barrelled up the ball well. Very strong at the plate with an exit velocity of 95 mph. Ran a 7.67 60-yard dash and had an infield velocity of 83 mph.
