PBR Tournaments: Carolina Fall Championship Recap - 14U & 15U

Brandon Hall & PBR Staff
Executive Director of PBR NC

Prep Baseball Report Tournaments hosted their first tournament in North Carolina this past weekend in Cary, NC at the USA Baseball National Training Facility and surrounding fields.  Four age groups, featuring close to 40 teams spread out across 4 age brackets.

Each bracket featured pool play giving way to a championship bracket on Sunday, with a single elimination style bracket churning out 4 champions.  Below we take a look at the 14U & 15U age divisions and their champions, as well as beginning to dive into some of the player information gathered from the weekend.  Over the course of the next few days, Scout Blogs will feature players from each age division.

Casey Culbreth, RHP, Midway HS (NC), 2023
Tri State Arsenal South -- Youthful frame.  Lanky and thin.  Chance to add strength in coming years.   Listed at 5-foot-11, 135 pounds.  Works on-line with some rhythm.  Long arm swing to a high-3/4 slot.  Slight head clear through release.  Fastball at 75-78.  Around the zone with the fastball and breaking ball.  Breaking ball is still maturing with early 11/5 tilt.

Cameron Slough, RHP, Glen Allen HS (VA), 2023

Peyton Young, SS, St. Stephen’s HS (NC), 2023
Carolina Rockies Havoc -- Lanky, athletic frame.  Listed at 5-foot-11, 140 pounds.  Good actions at shortstop.  Active feet.  Has the arm strength to stop and restart the feet on catches.  Better going to his left as he will catch the ball off the right hip, going to his right.  Again, arm has enough carry to allow.  Occasionally erratic when the feet become stagnant, but big upside on the athleticism defensively.  Left handed hitter.  Easy rhythm, loading with a small leg kick.  Aggressive nature, working flat through contact.  Showed barrel feel.  May hit at a high level as he adds strength to the frame.

Max White, LHP, Hough HS (NC), 2023
Carolina Rockies Havoc -- Lanky left at 6-foot-1, 155 pounds.  Average leg kick with some coil at balance.  Lands on-line with a closed front toe.  Medium arm swing to a high-3/4 slot.  Some stiffness through release that may clean as strength is added.  Fastball at 76-78, touching 80.  Breaking ball has some maturity to it at 65-67.
